Manifolds glowing does not sound good. Sounds like you have restricted exhaust.Try loosing the exhaust in front of catalytic convertors just enough to have a good exhaust leak and see if you power doesn't come back then. If so then convertors are stopped up.

You have several possible issues and several options.

#1 Check engine light, get the codes read (Autozone, Ford dealer) see what the computer is complaining about, will likely give you some direction to go in tourbleshooting.

#2. Backfiring/sluggish - This could involve engine timing, fowled/non firing plugs/bad plug wires/cracked distributor cap

#3 If it is a 1993 and has been sitting, then servicing the transmission is a good idea anyway.

I think you nailed it with the amount of time you glow plug light. It should stay on until you engage or it should be timed to stay on longer.

I have an 1993 Ford F250 turbo diesel truck that won't start. I've been told, that the glow plugs are not warming up. Where are the glow plugs and is there anything I can do to warm them up or fix? Do they...

Are you waiting after turning ignition key on before actually moving key to start position? My diesel I turn key to 1st position;bells and lights;if engine is cold an amber light that looks like a lamp filiment comes on...wait until that light goes out before engaging the starter.

Tried to start 2004 f250 with out glowplugs now it wont start. checked fuse still wont start

glow plug light and glow plug are not on same system
check at gow plug conection (top of valve cover both side
follow from relay front valve vover right side silver box)
power 12 volts on all 4 wires in both conector left and right
if not replace relay if 12 volts relay ok (test light clip on ground)
then check glow plug (test light clip on positive ) touch wires going
to glow plug should light up if ok (quick test ) if any fail replaced
if all seems ok look at the oil injection system most common
problem with these motors I have yet to replaced a glow plug or relay

This engine 'loves' glow plugs! One goes and the others try to handle the amps. Change them and you will have no probs! Other than that, I feel this is about the best diesel truck made!

1992 F250 7.3 idi diesel glow plug relay has power to two large posts and one small post and the second small post pulses when activated. I checked ground to engine and seems to be gounded fine. Any ideas...

Have you checked the glow-plugs? On that system if one glow-plug is burnt up than it will not let the main relay in the controller to kick in.
Check all the glow-plugs make sure they are working.
The easiest way to check them is with a regular 12v test light.
Hook up the negitive end (aligator clip end ) to the battery + terminal and than with the other end of the test light ( pointed end ) touch each glow- plug connector tip ( with the glow-plugs harness connector removed ) and see if the test light lights up.
If the test light up--- glow-plug is good. If not than the glow-plug is bad--burnt out .

Check the fuse first then check the wire harness and connection working your way back from the glow plug to the fuse box. Good luck and hope this helps. If everything is good then replace the glow plugs.

Bad glow plugs and/or glow plug controller. Common issue with these vehciles. Some also have harness failures. Replace all glow plugs as a set not individually.
