My check engine light is coming on from time to time. Vehicle has 127000 miles on it.
I'm thinking Marcos is on the right track. In todays world with all the gadgets such as phones and GPS's, they tend to get plugged into the cigarette lighter. These cigarette lighter circuits are not able to handle the amps our gadgets put out which in turn blows the fuse which just happens to be the same circuit as the power for your data link connector plug. Below is a fuse layout diagram for the fuse panel located under the hood of the vehicle in the engine compartment. I have marked the fuse you need to check (it should be a 15 amp fuse). If the fuse is good then you may want to check directly at the data link connector on the left side under the dash where the tech who tried to get codes for you plugged in his scanner. Below the fuse diagram is a picture of the data link connector. The top of the DLC is wider then the bottom (like a triangle kinda). I have marked the terminal of that connector that should have the power (lower, bottom part of the "triangle". the narrow not wide). That terminal which should have an orange wire is you power wire. If you have power, you may be looking at a ground proplem or if it doesn't have power and the fuse is good, you will need to locate the open wire to find your power loss. On a personal note, if it is just the fuse that's blown, I don't think I would take my vehicle back to that same tech. Pretty much every tech with a little knowledge should know that this is the first place to look if not getting popwer at the DLC. Hope this helped you out.....
Is you cigar lighter working?
Make sure the diagnostic machine is a CAN/OBD 2 SCANNER. In '03 GMC started making vehicles with the Controlled Area Network "CAN" which a regular OBD 2 scanner will not recognize any plug in into your vehicle. I found a CAN/OBD2 SCANNER at my local Harbor Freight Store for $50.

have autzone check for any stored trouble codes, replace the fuel cap, make sure you have plenty of gas

the first place to start is the flashing engine lite. that means cylinders are not firing at all or improperly and driving it like that for even short period could cause heavier damage. particularly valves and cat converter(s) the computer really needs to be scanned for codes in order to proceed. did the oil lite come on before or after engine quit. after engine quit would be normal cause it stalled. its possible that it needs spark plugs and/or coils. or more

A tune up will not cure the lean code, in fact an engine miss gives a rich code from the unburned fuel. I would suggest u verify u have no vacuum leaks, also clean the inside of the MAF sensor if so equipped and replaced the bank two O2 sensor, that is the passenger side sensor before the catalytic converter. If u have the money replace both right and left sensors, it is better to do them in pairs.

just go to a garage or dealer to have your light cleared with a computer

in proper fuel adjestment in the carb/ or if fuel injected..
thats a breif idea of what i got from it..
