Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

Car is choking when I take off from a light

My Galant is acting strange. First while sitting at a stop light with my foot on the brake it will **** just a little. Then when I put on the gas it will choke out like its not getting enough gas. Did that today and the whole car shook and after it straightened it self out the engine service light came on so I drove it right to the garage.
I just had it tuned up about 2 months ago. Please help.
Also I am trying to find out where the gas line filter is located and no one seems to know.

Thank you

The fuel filter is loctate under the car on the gas line eather near the gas tank or where the doors are at. IT could be the filter, take and check you fuel pressure.

My 2007 Chevy Aveo stalls at lights and stop signs. I had the 2 sensors related to the timing replaced, the throttle box replaced, and a new coil, all in the past month, but nothing has changed.

a simple test here is to idle the car, and put your foot on the brake
if it stalls then the problem is a faulty brake booster
every body sits at lights /stop signs with their foot on the brake not realizing it and miss that bit of evidence in determining a problem
check for vacuum leaks ( transmission actuator hose, vent controls) run fault codes to see if there are problem sensors

Shuts down at stop signs

do the simple test
start the car and see if it idles normally-- foot off the brake--if so good
now put your foot on the brake -does the engine stop-- if so then replace the brake booster as it has a vacuum leak
you may not notice the difference as most people sit at lights with their foot on the brake so all they understand is that the engine stops at lights.

Very loud screeching noise in rear when backing up

You may have picked up some gravel in the rear brakes. Does it happen every time you back up? Does the car act strangely when backing up, like it needs to work extra-hard to move? Does it happen when your foot is on the brake? When your foot is off the brake? Is one of your neighbors missing a cat?

2003 galant surging while foot is on brake

It could also be a problem in the power brake booster valve too (It could be many different things, however tranny fluid is not on my list).. Is the tachometer surging or dropping as well more than 200-300 rpm? How many miles are on the car and or the tranny fluid?

Acts like its choking out when i sit and idle for a littlebit

it maybe a vacuum line so check all of those to make sure one is not loose or off and put some STP gas treatment in the fuel tank make sure it has at least a half a tank of gas and if the STP helps then replace your fuel filter
