Question about 1989 GMC C1500

89 chevy c1500 5.0l auto.....won't crank....solenoid just clicks

Hey everyone....i need some help. I have an 89 Chevy C-1500 Silverado. It has a 5.0l Automatic. Back in Aug on my Honeymoon me and the new wife took a trip. We had shut the vehicle down at a gas station. When we came out, it wouldn't crank. On the volt gauge it readless than 9 volts so i got a jump....didn't work. Let it sit for a few and it fired right up but only after the volt meter came up to where it belonged. Dec it happened again....i put in a starter even after the old tested fine, batter, cables, I wire, and ignition switch...same thing...9 volts on the gauge. But 12.5 at the battery. If you turn the headlights on they dim down and the volt gauge goes to zero. If you go to crank it the solenoid will just chatter. The purple wire is only getting 8-9 volts.....then i check he battery and its 12.5...whats going on? if i go to the junction block on the fire wall i can get 12 volts if i ground to the battery,if i use the firewall or and firewall grounds i get 8-9 volts????? Possible a bad ground but where???? i am at a loss..please help

    all is brand new. I thought the same thing. it has new cables and ends, battery, starter, alt, purple wire, ignition switch...wont jump...battery 12.5 volts, @ junction block 8-9 volts. I think it's a ground. i just remembered last year it melted the ground wire that goes from the battery to the fender near the under hood utility light.........vehicle still started...but what caused it to melt.

Sounds to me like you need to clean the battery post and the cables. Take off the batter cables and either take some sandpaper or a wire brush and clean the post and then do the same to the inside of the battery cables that comes in contact with the batter post.

The small wire from the ignition switch goes to the small post on the starter solenoid. The large wire from the battery goes to the large post on the starter solenoid.

Have 99 chevy silverado 1500 I have a headlight problem all the other lights work but headlights won't turn on

-Check "headLight fuse"
-Check connector at the headlight.
-Check the bulb. (It could burn out)

Yes my 97 chevy silverado dually won't crank and

check and make sure the powrr wite has a solid cconnection the check the grounds to the starter.

this code is for evap vent solenoid you can pick one up at your locall dealer or auto parts store after installing it i would reccomend that you run a hose up the transmission tunnel toi keep dirt and debris from clogging it up again thank you and have a great day hope this helps you

My 2001 chevy silverado 1500 wont start. All i can hear is the fuel pump and the starter clicking.What could it be????

The starter solenoid is the problem. The starter is under the truck on the passenger side. Go under the truck with a hammer and tap the starter a couple of times. Then go and try to start it again. Try this a couple of times and it may solve your problem. If this does not work, then the starter solenoid is out and needs to be replaced or you have a bad connection.

07 chevy silverado 5.3 auto trans.

I have a 2000 GMC that does that also, only mine wont slow down unless i turn it off and retsart, only does it when engine is really warm.
