You could have serval problems, temporaryly you can remove the key. There is a hole just below the key on the steering column. It has a plastic plug in it, just use your finger nail or something with a sharp flat edge and pry it off. Then with s slinder pencil or somethng simular go into the hole and push the key release while trying to turn the key. This should release the key.
Now that you have released the key, did the check engine light come on at the same time? It should have, if so have the codes pulled and go from there.

THIS IS A FAMILIAR PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. ONCE IN PARK POSITON, PRESS THE SHIFTER FIRMLY UP PAST PARK AND THE KEY SHOULD COME OUT.

If by slight chance it doesn't WHICH IT USUALLY WORKS then take a hammer and LIGHLY tap around the metal ring on the ignition.

First thing to do is check and see if the brake lights work, the brake lights power the release solenoid so you can move the gear selector from part to the desired gear.

2008 Dodge Avenger. Cannot shift gear out of

first thing I check is if the brake lights work.

a trick that works on some cars is turn the key to one notch before "run", shift into neutral and start. then take it to the dealer, it's under warranty, right?

My dodge avenger 2008 is stuck in park and will not shift out

There's a saftey cable attached to the brake. If that breaks or gets messed up you will not be able to get it out of park. There might be a key slot in the console, insert the ignition key, & try to move the gear shift. If you can get to neutral,it'll start & you can get it to a qualified shop, without a tow bill.

Need Help Putting A Door Handle On A 1996 Dodge Avenger

Start by disconnecting your negative battery cable. Then you need to locate and remove the screws that hold your interior door handles in place (they may be hidden by snap in, or snap on clips). Once you remove the screws that hold the interior door handles, remove any wire connectors to the handles. The interior door panel itself, is held on by snap in clips, and you will need a small pry bar to pull them from the door (try to gat as close to, or directly under the clips to prevent them from tearing out of the door panel). Once the clips are removed from the door, pull the panel upward to remove it from the door. After you gain access to the inside of the door, you will see a area for your new door handle to set in place and operate the door latch. Place your new door handle in place and tighten the nuts that retain it. If has a electronic key code, plug in the electrical connector.

Install everything in reverse.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.
