What cause a transmission lever not to shift to L on 98 caravan?

What cause a transmission lever not to shift to L on '98 caravan?
On cluster is shown, PRD3L, I can NOT get the lever to shift to "L" but from P to 3 after transmission being replaced with a remanufactured one. What could have gone wrong? Could the mechanics have installed a 3 speed instead of 4 speed unit in the Van? Any suggestion?

Shift Cable Hun if u go Under your ZVan Find your Tranny what thay have Done is not Put the Cable back where it needs to Be Or thay Put a ZBad Pin back in if it is a Pin u can get them Cheap enoff Prolly like 5 to 10 Bucks

PRND321 Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC - instrument panel cluster receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the gear position. The PRND321 display blanks if:

The ECM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit.

The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM. The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components:

The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid

The automatic transmission shift lock control switch

With the ignition in the ON position, voltage is supplied to automatic transmission shift lock control switch. Voltage flows through the normally closed contacts of the automatic transmission shift lock control switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is permanently grounded. This energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid causing the transmission shift lever to be physically locked in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is pressed the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open, de-energizing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. This allows the shift lever to be move out of the PARK position.
The transmission range (TR) switch is part of the park/neutral position (PNP) and backup lamp switch assembly, which is externally mounted on the transmission manual shaft. The TR switch contains four internal switches that indicate the transmission gear range selector lever position. The PCM supplies ignition voltage to each switch circuit. As the gear range selector lever is moved, the state of each switch may change, causing the circuit to open or close. An open circuit or switch indicates a high voltage signal. A closed circuit or switch indicates a low voltage signal. The PCM detects the selected gear range by deciphering the combination of the voltage signals. The PCM compares the actual voltage combination of the switch signals to a TR switch combination chart stored in memory.
You need a Tech2 scan tool to diagnose this problem ! possible range sensor !

How do replace the shift cable for my 1993 caravan, where the cable connects to the lever by the transmission?


it coneaks to the shifter on the steering wheel and goes down to the trans. if u can tape together new one to old one and disconect by shifter and pull old one out as the new one follows behind. conect to shifter and trans adjust as needed and u should b done.

Gear shift lever in column is loose


your problem with the gear selector is in the item 25 these are 2 plastic bushings that wear out and cause the gear selector feels loose, you should also check the item 27 this item has one or two screws loose and cause the gear selector feels loose

How do I change the dash lights in my 1997 ford crown victoria? I took out all the screws but still cant get the cover off to get to the bulbs. URG!!!

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. On 1989 vehicles, disconnect the speedometer cable. On 1989 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis, remove the headlight switch knob and shaft assembly.
  3. Remove the instrument cluster trim cover attaching screws and remove the trim cover.
  4. Except 1992-98 Grand Marquis, remove the lower steering column cover retaining screws and remove the lower cover. On 1992-98 Grand Marquis, remove the knee bolster retaining screws and remove the knee bolster.
  5. On all except 1992-98 Grand Marquis, remove the lower half of the steering column shroud.
  6. Remove the screw holding the transmission range indicator column bracket to the steering column. Detach the cable loop from the pin and cane shift lever. Remove the column bracket from the column.
  7. Remove the 4 cluster retaining screws. Disconnect the cluster feed plugs from the receptacle and remove the cluster assembly.
  8. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
Electronic Cluster NOTE: The electronics within the electronic instrument cluster are not serviceable. In the event of an electronic failure, the entire instrument cluster must be replaced or returned to the manufacturer for repair.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and set the parking brake.
  2. Unsnap the center moulding on the left and right sides of the instrument panel. Remove the steering column cover and column shroud.
  3. Remove the knobs from the auto dim and auto lamp switches, if equipped. Remove the 13 screws retaining the instrument panel and pull the panel out.
  4. Move the shift lever to the 1 position, if required, for easier access.
  5. Detach the electrical connectors from the warning lamp module, switch module and center panel switches, if equipped.
  6. Remove the instrument cluster carefully so as not to scratch the cluster lens. Detach the electrical connector from the front of the cluster.
  7. Disconnect the transmission range indicator assembly from the cluster by carefully bending the bottom tab down and pulling the indicator assembly forward.
  8. Pull the cluster out and detach the electrical connectors on the rear of the cluster. Remove the instrument cluster.
  9. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Where is the shift solenoid located in my 98 Dodge


THE SOLENOIDS ARE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, U MUST REMOVE THE SHEET METAL TRANS PAN TO SERVICE THEM.

My 2001 Dodge Caravan's transmission is stuck in reverse.


Things haven't changed much...look on top of the transmission in the engine compartment and look at the shifting linkage. Look for anything that could be interfering with the shifting. One linkage is the cable to the Shift Lever and Rod that goes down into the transmission. Remove the cable adjustment screw.
Move the shift lever rod towards the front of the Van into the Park Indent Position. Place the Driver's Position (Dash) Shift Lever into Park and then reconnect the Cable to the Shift Lever and tighten down the cable adjustment screw to 70 in-lbs.

No spark to plugs, oil pressure light on, engine died


Is your dash cluster working? If not this will cause the problem.The gas gage, temp gage, odometer, and transmission shift indicator will not light up. Give the dash a hard thump above the cluster this may or may not temporarily fix the problem.

sounds like linkage is out of ajustment, or it got hooked back up wrong, or it got bent when the old one was taken out, or new one was put in, or new trans. is for a differant model like car or truck ect.

Electrical and slipping Transmission


Transmission and gauges are probably unrelated. My '98 Caravan had 2 bad solder connections on the back of the instrument cluster where the connector attached. It takes about 10 minutes to get the cluster out. The bad solder joints were easy to spot on mine. It took 2 years for me to find the problem, but only 30 minutes to fix it and it hasn't happened again since (almost a year).
