Fuel Filter is located under engine cover, center, upper engine area, rear
of alternator, mounted in fuel line.
A plugged air filter or fuel filter could cause this. Does it ever smell sulphuric like rotten eggs? if it does, than replace or remove the catalytic converter. Hope this gets ya somewhere. post your results.
