Question about 2000 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a Jeep Cherokee Laredo 2001. The check engine light is on and I have been told that the computer is diagnosing the problem as a misfire in the cylinder. I went out to try and change the spark plugs and wires, but I cannot find them. Could you please tell me where they are located? I have changed them before on a pontiac sunbird, but the wires and the plugs were right there in the open to find.

I changed the plugs, but I still have the check engine light on. According to Advanced Auto, the computer logged that there was a missfire in the cylinder. I realize that it could still be the fuel injectors, but another question I have is there any chance that the computer would still keep the check engine light on after I left the battery terminal unhooked after a half hour? I heard that some vehicles need to have an automotive technician reset the computer inorder to clear the light.

Burnt valve would back fire and run rough, burn oil, wouldn't it? The vehicle isnt experiencing any of these.

I have been trying to diagnose a simular problem. 01 Cherokee, starting missing very badly, check engine light is on and blinking when the missing is very bad. Replaced coil pack, crank sensor, cam sensor, on the 3rd computer. Have come to the conclusion that it starts is bad missing when drifting down long hills with foot off the throttle. In order to clear the flashing check engine light I have to turn the car off and start again. A little nerve racking while moving 40mph.

Assuming this is a 4.0 liter engine it doesnt use plug wires any uses a coil pack. this runs down the passenger side of the engine and the plugs are under it. 4 13mm headed bolts hold the coil pack to the engine assembly

thatbattery unhook should have cleared it. did advanced tell you if it was the same cylinder misfiring.if it is then yes an injector could be causing it. you may want to have a compression test ran also as a burned valve could cuse the same problem

I have a 2004 Jeep Cherokee Laredo - after putting $25 worth of gas in the car the engine light started flashing and the car started shaking - what could this be?

the light flashes when there is a Catalytic Converter damaging misfire. If it just happened after that, have a mechanic take a fuel sample, from the fuel rail if there water in it, the gas station will/should pay for repairs. if the gas is ok, then have the mechanic diagnose it, and then a determination can be made if its gas related, or a coincidence.

Changed the plugs...

Yes, the code will need to be cleared by the technician.

Usually the check engine light doesn't come back on immediately. However it will store the code until it is cleared by the tech.

If it comes back on immediately, then you have an immediate problem b/c it take a certain number of misfires over a certain number of miles before it trips the code again.
