Battery Bolt Wont Come Off

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger. The battery bolt seems frozen on. We tried WD-40 and it just wont budge. What else could I do to get this thing off? It had heavy corrosion and I think that may be what did it. Thanks

The vice grips didnt work. Seems nothing will make them turn. I couldnt find anything called PB Blast either. I am going to have it towed to a shop. Hopefully they will be able to get it off. Thanks for the input guys.

PB blaster will cut corrosion better than wd-40 try that. If all else fails put a pipe on the end of the ratchet and turn.

Get some vice grips and get a good bite on the large diameter washer looking part of the terminal.

Let me know if this works for you.

Save yourself some money, and while your buying a new battery, buy a new battery cable as well.

Replace both, and you will be good to go.

Get the water pump out it's stuck

You are missing something....like a bolt you can't see. Count the number of bolt holes in the new pump and make sure you have removed that many bolts.

some bolts are tightened using a thread locking compound to make sure they wont loosen , do they look badly rusted< us a spray lube ,make sure you have the exact socket and it fits tightly, if its a hex bolt a six point or a 12 point or a torx head an make sure you have good tools that wont brake easy, and that you have leverage , if near gas tank heat or flames are not suggested good luck hope it helps you .Woody

Try soaking it down with WD-40 and letting it sit for a bit. Usually you can heat up a sticky screw/bolt and get it to break, but since youre next to the gas tank, its not recommended.

I would try spraying some WD-40 on the bolt, and try to tighten it, loosen it, tighten and loosen it, don't spare the WD-40. Ford Trucks and some Ford Cars seem to have this problem alot.

Put in key it wont turn.

sounds like you have a frozen lock cylinder. you can try spraying some wd-40 or lube into the key slot and tapping on the ignition and it might free up temporarily but you will most likely have to replace the lock cylinder

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger, and I can't seem to get the battery bolt off. Its frozen on, nothing works. We tried WD-40, and it just wont budge. Is there some other way to get this thing off?

On my 1998 Ranger, a few years back, I had the same problem. I drilled off the head of the bolt out as I recall. The plastic retainer lifted off and the battery was now able to be removed. Then I drilled downward right next to the frozen bolt on an angle into the base of the frozen bolt. I used a steel washer to back up the now elongated bolt hole in the battery pan when I put it together. Put it back together with a suitable new bolt and nut and the washer on the underside of the battery pan. Assemble it all with grease so you won't be doing this again in another 4 years.

BATTERY REMOVAL

DID YOU REMOVE THE HOLD DOWN BOLT AT THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE BATTERY? IT MAY BE COVERED WITH DEBRIS AND PROBABLY WON'T WANT TO COME OUT EITHER. I NEVER LIKED DOING A BATTERY IN THOSE , HARD TO GET CUSTOMER TO UNDERSTAND THE LABOR INVOLVED.
