Question about 1994 Chevrolet C1500

Hard shifting auto tranny

1998 Chevy C-1500 Auto...Very hard to move shift lever, almost like it is rusted, etc...98,000 mi...When I unhook the cable from the tranny, the bracket on side of tranny is easy to shift through full range by hand...Detents seem just about right, firm but not difficult...When I hook it back up, I can barely move lever...Was told by backyard mechanic that the "pivot bolt" needs lubing but can find no reference on line or in my Haynes manual (...what's new...!!!) Is it accessible inside the steering column or can't I fix it myself...??? Thanks for any help

Thanks, andrew90...After digging all over the Net, I finally surmised that it was probably the shift cable...You would think that as many Chevys as there are out there and as poor a design as it is there would be hundreds of references to this problem...NOT...!!!

Rock Auto on the Net sells them for $65.90...1/2 the price of the dealer and most other suppliers on line...What's new...!!!

    Thanks again...burleyque

2006 Forenza goes into every gear but won't move?

is car a stick shift or auto.
must be and automatic trans
so do all shifted selections fail. on the gear shift lever.
lever does work right? moves.?
and PRNDL.
Reverse fail too?
and Drive
and Low.
get car serviced. or if handy....???
check levels, fuses and scan it.

yet another poster that never heard of or seen a stick shifted car.
gee, is it auto or stick
in both cases the cable most move at both ends.
and move correctly, or it will never shift.
have friend shift and you watch at the lever on side of the transaxle,
yes, that be like first and logical, right>

its just a cable shifter. its FWD as most are.

I wont say sounds like, as Im blind here and cant see car, drive it ,feel it or anything.
why ask the blind for help.?????
if it died moving, seems to me the cable didnt fall off and the trans shift to neutral, but?
but your post lack any facts. but died.

if car is AT (auto) check levels? for trans.
check linkage, yet.
check fuses, if it wont shift to 2nd,
if manual same checks, level and linkage works.
only the Fluid is different and the stick shift has a foot clutch and it can go bad too.
a stick shift clutch can fail and slip 100%
so , we can not guess what car you are driving
and asking for help when even you dont know that.
is over the top.

Why is it hard to shift gears on my 1997 lumina.

if the shift process is through a cable then check the cable for wear and fraying, rust or dry. If it is through linkage check for worn /rusted /tight connections

1998 toyota tacoma slips out of gear

Check the shifter cable at the transmission side and see tf the pivot on the transmission is not rusted and is not difficult to move, take your vehicle and shift to neutral, now turn it off, put on parking brake or block wheels so you don't run yourself over now you can feel the shift link on the transmission, lube it up as it may not be going in fully and causing to slip out, good luck..

2006 chrysler300 wont shift back into park any suggestions

lots of ways.
rusted cable, and it slipped and is no longer adjusted right.
this takes 2 persons, to see if the tranny lever actually moves
to park. or its the shifter cable issue.
its just a cable.
but there part to fail here. (beside tranny) shifter, , park lockout.
etc.
what id do is find what actual part is preventing it from shifting
and work that.
by careful observation

1988 chevy 4x4 k1500 auto tranny wont shift into 2nd, 3rd etc

Check the sensors on the transmission. May just be corrosion on the sensors or it may be a faulty sensor. Also, the torque converter bearing may have went bad due to the running it on low transmission fluid.

Will not shift in my 2000 chevy lumina

a jeep lumina?
wrong forum but that is ok, seems to be common here.
what wont shift.
A/T or M/T auto or stick? tranny????
what does will not , mean?
I cant move the shift lever
i cant shift, to 2nd
IT (autobox ) will not shift ever, or slips or flares. or?
if its and A/T autotranny, tell me what it does right and wrong
here is an example.
i start engine.
i shift to drive car dont move, in any gear
i see RPM race high with right foot over 3000 RPM.
tranny failure. (slips)
or RPM stays near 1500, and engine sounds loaded,
and i find the parking brake stuck on, or the brakes are full of ice
and stuck fast.

2006 chevy 1500 express transmission

Sometimes the transmission sets a "hard code" that causes a hard shift from 1-2. Stop by an Auto Parts store that has an OBD scanner and reset any codes. If that doesn't work, change the tranny fluid and filter and try SeaFoam additive.
Good Luck.

Either the pin that connects rod to tranny is broken off, or there is internal transmission problems.
