Question about 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

Esp light on 2005 vw beetle convertible.

I have checked the esp switch. It has 24vdc across the terminals and when the switch is held closed the reading is zero. I have abd2 scanner but their is no fault code. Will my reader pick up all codes??
I have inspected all wheel sensors, cables and appear to be ok. The only thing that I have done is istall a cd changer in the consoll. I do not know whether the light was on before or not. I found on another site someone had a yaw sensor code, I have no fault code with my reader (Innova Electronics Corp.)

Thanks

Dennis

I have removed the cd changer as suggested (it was a vw changer and a factor installed cable was their, a plug and play stiuation). The ESP light is still on. I did unhook the battery for 2 minutes after unhooking the cd changer. I had stated in the previous posting that I did not know if the esp light was on or not before I installed the cd changer or not. My wift drives the car and I did not notice. This is a 2005 vw beetle conv. I did find on another site that another person had a fault code, but I do not have any with my code reader. The had a yaw sensor error. I do not know where the yaw sensor is located. It is not under the back seat.
    Thanks Dennis

I have just checked the wiring and I did not pinch an wire. Is there a code reader that I can purchase that will read the body code? I live about 60 miles for the nearest vw dealer.

    Thanks Dennis

Esp is Electronic Stability Programme. This is common in vw, sometimes it flashes on but another day it is off, just a malfunction of the computer.

But if it persists then you should check or fill your tires up with air as this can also effect the car - thus light on.

ESP and ABS work together. If there is something wrong with your ABS, the ESP light will be on as well.

If only the ESP light is on, and not the CEL - a code reader will not read any error codes.

A manual reset may be attempted by turning steering wheel from lock to lock with engine running.

You need the software and possibly the dongle that RossTech has. I've got one that I use on my '01 New Beetle, and it tells you everything.

You can also go to the RossTech forum and get valuable info.

The ECU will hold all codes for faults related to connected and controlled devices, like the sensors. however, it may not display any code if the problem is caused by a short on wirings , that is the most likely.

Check all wirings from fuse box , starting from the fuse or relay that keeps blowing.

If there is a code it will be in the body control mode which your code reader will not pick up.you may have to go to a dealer to access the body computer.make sure you didnt pinch any wires when installing your cd player.because you could have volts put not enough amps for the switch to work thank for choosing fixya.

Th cd canger could be the cause of the problem...unhook it and see if things go back to normal and if they do then you know you have to reroute your cd changer. if its the only thing youve added then thats what you should look at first

The brake lights (all 3) on my VW Sharan do not work although there is an intermittent flashing. At the same time the Glo Plug light is flashing. what is the cure?

There is a recall on the brake light switch. VW should replace it for free.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Defective brake lights on Golf, GTI, Jetta, New Beetle and R32 are a potential safety hazard and should be replaced. February 26, 2007 - NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Around 800,000 Volkswagen vehicles have been recalled Monday because of faulty brake lights, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
The 790,000 vehicles include Jettas, New Beetles, Golfs, GTIs and R32s...all in the United States.
The specific years and models affected are:
  • 1999-2005 Jetta sedans
  • 2001-2005 Jetta wagons
  • 1998-2007 New Beetle
  • 2003-2007 New Beetle Convertibles
  • 1999-2006 Golfs and GTIs
  • 2004 R32
The malfunctioning brake lights and brake light switches could fail to come on or remain stuck on.
This recall expands on one announced by Europe's No. 1 carmaker last year, when 362,000 Jettas and New Beetles were recalled due to the same defective part.
Volkswagen said that dealers will immediately be prepared to accept service appointments to perform the repair at no charge, but the notification process isn't scheduled to begin until April.
NHTSA did not say if any injuries had been reported linked to the defective brake lights.

How do i fit a brake light switch on a VW Convertible Beetle 2005?

It's a very tight area beneath the steering column where the brake light switch mounts to the top portion of your brake pedal. First check to see if the 2005 New Beetles were included in the recall for faulty brake light switches. If so, have the dealer do the repair. If not, be prepared to scrape a few knuckles, it's very tight quarters down there. A doable repair for the mechanically inclined, but a very frustrating experience once the job is done.

Right rear window will not go up 2005 VW bug convertible what is wrong?

Can you hear the motor whirring when the switch is activated? VW makes the bracket that holds the window out of plastic. You cannot buy a replacement bracket, so most likely the window regulator is broken and it needs to be replaced.

If you do not hear the motor, then the switch could be bad, or agin the regulator may need to be replaced. It's expensive to fix VW windows.
