Question about 1994 Ford Ranger Supercab

1994 Ford Ranger 4 wheel drive does not work. Lights turn on.

Both high and low range do not work. Wheels do not spin at all. Kind of a whinning noise. Looking for answers. Can you give me an estimate to fix. Ball park. The rest of the truck is in good shape. What's gone wrong? Thanks

High mileage truck I am assuming? Sounds as though your transfer case chain has broken. You can get kits to replace the chain. Or, you can find a used one from a wrecking yard to swap into place. If the truck is good otherwise I would not give up on it. A transfer case could run you up to $600.00 depending on weather it's new or rebuilt. A kit can run you $200.00 to $300.00.

Why does my 4 wheel drive not work all the time?

not work, do tell what makes you think it dont work (a lamp) or tires slipping or dead tires. (by tires mean that and traction)??????????

what mode fails, of the many, and where.???????



first off, we dont know what your tires are touching.

on road, or off road. pavement or ICE or snow.

that matters big time . (you read manual and match MODE to Road)

your lost operators guide explains all that, right?

4-wheel electronic traction control system is enabled, ESC and RSC are disabled



In 4A mode the center differential is electronically-controlled and rear drive wheel bias. The on-board computer monitors for any sign of rear drive wheel slip (loss of traction)

If loss of traction is detected, the center differential is told to send a share of the engine\'s torque to the front drive wheels. It will not let the front driveshaft turn at the same speed as the rear driveshaft.



What about traction management?

1997-2002 model Ford Expeditions offered an optional limited-slip rear differential (LSD). A conventional open rear differential was standard along with the conventional open front differential and the electronic locking center differential.

comment with out LSD, one tire can spin, on say ice.

but the other 3 tires dont, in full time.

Ford explorer 2000 all wheel drive not working


all wheel drive vehicles have to work at both ends all the time unless you have a major failure in the drive train. That is why it is called all wheel drive as opposed to 4 wheel drive. With 4 wheel drive you have the option of rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive and normally in a high ratio or low ratio gear selection. With some all wheel drive vehicles there is a selector that locks the middle diff and creates a 4 wheel drive option without the high/low gear ratio option. So in practice if the both front wheels are in the bog then there is no all wheel drive as the centre diff is working as it should and placing all the action in the rear wheels which will not be turning as they have traction so the front wheels spin faster.. If you have a centre diff lock option ensure that it is operational.

I have 2003 RA Holden Rodeo 3.0 ltr T/Diesel. The 2 front wheels don't seem to be engaging when i put it into 4wd (high or low range). I can hear the high and low range click in when i press the buttons...


Does yours have AUTO hubs, there are some luxory models have auto hubs, these rely on difference in drive on the axles,(wheel spin) others have manual locking hubs, these actually need to be engaged manually, these require you to twist the centre of the hub to engage and disengage the front hubs, these sometimes require you to reverse to disengage properly, Rodeo had both depending on model. Wont disengage out of 4 wheel drive 1998 ford ranger first time its stuck in 4 low we have backed up turned switch numerous times shut it off and restarted


Be sure to put the truck in neutral, while engine is running, while you disengage from 4 wheel drive (low) to 4 wheel drive (high) and then finally to 2 wheel drive. It is critical to shift transmission into neutral when switching out of 4WD Low, as indicated in your owner's manual. Hopefully, this will help to FixYa problem!

4wd is it working properly or not


No. Power will transfer to the wheel with the least amount of traction unless the differential is a limited slip diff. You likely have limited slip (Positraction) in the rear diff so both wheels will spin. The front axle doesn't have posi so only one wheel will spin. (3 wheels spinning)

2000 Ford Ranger no 4wd lo


In order to get into 4 wheel drive low, make sure the shifter is in neutral before switching the dial to 4 wheel low. 4 wheel high and 2 wheel high can be switched into in park or in drive but 4 wheel low can only be obtained in neutral. If that does'nt work you may have an electrical or switch problem. Hope this helps. God bless!

SOUNDS LIKE THE LOCK UP SWITCH TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS MALFUNTIONING
GIVING A FALSE SINGLE TO THE TRANS. GEAR RATIO TO SLIP IN AND OUT OF 4 WHEEL DRIVE
