Broken drain valve on radiator of 1994 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

The plastic drain valve on the radiator broke off and leaks. The only way to get to it is remove the radiator right? It is plastic and can I replace it with a brass one?

Most of the times when these valves break they are pretty easy to get out by simply turn it with a FLAT screw driver that skinny enough to fit inside that hole. However if this is DOES NOT work a cheaper alternative is to get some JB weld or EPOXY and seal that hole shut completely there is on specifically for radiator that can with stand pressure and heat. It comes ina stick for that you have to kneed together available at AUTO ZONE. Knead together and it become warm to the touch its like play dough in texture but it dries rock hard and can be sanded even painted after it dries. To apply make sure surface is clean and dry it will dry in 15 minutes(ROCK HARD) good product. Don't worry if you sealed the drain plug up you can still drain your radiator in the future but releasing the lower radiator hose. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

How do I replace my lower radiator hose on my 94 olds cutlass supreme

Not much room to work on that one but try this:

This is a generic description of what most cars would be like.

1. Make sure the car engine is cold
2. remove the radiator cap. If you have over 60,000 mile I would replace it too
3. Depending on the radiator you may see a plastic or metal drain valve on the engine side or bottom of the radiator.
NOTE: Be very gentle when trying to open. Don't over-force it. If plastic they like to break.

4. If you believe that the valve is truly stuck then you must drain the radiator by removing the bottom hose. It will be messy that was so have a big pan under. The radiator hose may have a clamp you can remove by turning with a screw driver or nut driver or it may have the original pinch clamp type.

5. Once clamp removed from engine and radiator GENTLY twist the hose back and forth to see is it will release and remove. You can apply a reasonable amount of force at the water pump end but the radiator is most likely plastic and the like to break.

NOTE: If you cannot twist it off get a utility knife or something an slit it to surface and then twist to remove.

7. after all of that install hose in reverse procedure
make sure the valve is closed
install the recommended amount of the recommended antifreeze/coolant (your parts store should help with that)
start engine to make sure the fluid is flowing and after you see it moving install the new radiator cap.

I would let it idle for about 15 minutes looking under for any sign of leaks and watching the temperature gauge. If anything is odd stop the engine at any time and inspect for loose hose clamp or low coolant after cooling completely.

I hope I haven't missed anything..

Good Luck!

Broke off radiator drain plug plymouth breeze

ok I have seen two things done here...if the drain area is dry.. you can do this...spray the area clean with carbeurator cleaner and allow to air dry..then take a 2part JBweld epoxy and mix it together well and apply it completely around the drain plug area covering the entire thing.. let dry..and it should not some cases the same can be done with autobody filler or body putty a two part plastic mix.. the key is to have the area completely dry or the putty will not stick and form agood seal..good luck..

Radiator drain plug how do i open it to drain the radiator

You don't. You never open the petcock on radiators with plastic tanks because the petcock always breaks. If it doesn't break, it'll leak when you close it. No pro ever uses the petcock. You loosen the lower radiator hose clamp and yank the lower radiator hose. You'll take a bath, but it'll all be drained in about 1.5 mins. Then reconnect. You'll actually drain far more coolant that way too.

I can not find the drain plug for the radiator

Most radiators have a pit **** to drain them. It is a small plastic butterfly looking valve in the bottom corner of the radiator. These valves are usually very fragile and always seem to leak after they have been loosened. I prefer to loosen the clamp on the bottom radiator hose and pull it off to let the radiator drain.
