Question about 1993 Ford Tempo

1 Answer

I need to know what the sensor is called

I took my car in the a garage and was told that my sensor is going. They did not tell me what the name of the sensor is. When driving the car when you hit around 40-60 mph the CHECK ENGINE SOON light comes on when it does come on the car wants to slow down or even stall. When light goes out the car picks up the speed. And next question is it hard to but in a 94 ford tempo. Thaks

O.K. I was told it could be the 02 sensor, but with other problems then what I had previously describe. Check engine soon light comes on the car slows down and when light goes off the car gets it's speed back. What other problems comes along with the 02 sensor. Maybe it is happening to my car and I am not aware of it. But, if I don't have those problems then it is going to be the mass air flow sensor. And where is it located on the 94 ford tempo. Having a family member put it on. Thanks again

  1. Mass air flow sensor (This sound like this is your problem)
  2. Throttle position sensor (possible, but not usually with those symptoms)
  3. O2 sensor(also possible,but usually with other symptoms)

Replaced battery but check charging system comes on at message center and battery indicator comes on and dings as well

Could be the alternator as well. Might be a good idea to bring it to a garage where they can pull the error code off of the computer for you. This will tell you pretty conclusively where the fault is.

2001 suzzuki grand vitara, engine management light came on and took it to the garage and they told me it was the throttle position sensor so i changed it and put a new part on it but the problem came back...

if you live near a Autozone or simular store, they can usually pull up all the codes for your vehicle for free. try there first and then see if the codes need to be cleared.

I have a 2002 VW POLO 1.2 The engine management light came on and the car started to ?shake? on start up until some revs were applied and then returned to normal. Took it in to the garage and they said...

i also have a 2002 VW Polo 1.2, which I bought in January this year. The first time i drove it the engine management light came on. I took it to a garage and they changed a sensor in the exhaust system at a cost of £350. I drove the car again the following week and the light came on again, I took it to the same garage and they told me it was unrelated and that i needed another £300 repair. Refusing this I took the car to my parents mechanic who told me that these lights are prone to coming at the slightest little thing and to ignore it if the car is driving fine and sounds normal. He said that if there was a genuine problem that you wouldn't need the light to tell you but that the problem would be obvious through the sound it made or by the way the car started to drive. He said he felt the sensors were over sensitive and were there largely to encourage owners to take their cars into the garage for expensive repairs which didn't need doing.
He told me to drive the car as normal and ignore the light. He said only take it to a garage if there is an obvious problem, otherwise I was wasting my time and money.
I now drive the car without worrying abou the light and so far I haven't had any problems.
Suggest you do the same.

Service engine soon light

if certain that car has no sensor then carry on with self preservation (plus, leads, filter and such) as the warning light does come on sometimes to tell you to service/ take to a garage to service.
