Question about 2005 Buick LaCrosse
I tried to started my car, it gave a rapid clicking noise, not starter, the instrument panel went haywire, the gages were bouncing back & forth in small quick motion, the display said starting disabled and battery in safe mode. I think it thought it was being stolen. The key is stuck in the ingition. It will only go from the accessory position to start position. It will not go to off and the key will not release. The security system light stays on consistantly. It does not flash.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: 1994 Buick Park Ave won't start
The security system will keep it from turning over on that model. You need to try a 30 minute theft learn. Follow these instructions closely. Try to start the car, then leave the key on for 10 min. Turn the key off, 2 or 3 seconds. Turn the key back on, do not try to start the car this time, leave the key on for 10 min. Turn the key off again, turn it back to run, do not try to start it again, leave it for 10 more minutes. Then turn it off, and then try to crank it. If it is a security problem and it is not the ignition damaged it will crank. Good Luck. Mike From Texas.

When the Theft Deterrent Module (TDM), that is the core of the VATS system, cease to function, the security light could also stay off because it's the TDM itself that manage it.
In my case that's what happened, the faulty TDM was recognizing the key, turning off the security light, activating the starter relay, but was not sending the fuel enable signal to the PCM.
There is a great write-up on how to completely bypass the TDM here: http://newrockies.ca/vatsbypass . This is what saved my car.
