Question about Ford Focus
The answer to your question depends largely on your own skill and expertise in mechanical repair. If you are able to rebuild engines you may be able to get away fairly inexpensively. As little as $450.00. Odds are after running out the oil your main bearings overheated and caused the motor to seize. You'll need to replace at the very least your mains and journal bearings. If you are fortunate and this happened quickly, you may have avoided the need for an upper rebuild. If not, it's highly possible valve train damage may have occurred which will require a complete overhaul. If it's a complete overhaul you could be looking at $750.00 and up. On the other hand you may be able to replace the engine with a rebuilt or new motor. Many auto parts suppliers are now offering three options: A "certified" used engine (meaning an engine that is used and has been cleaned up, tested and had minor work such as new valve cover gaskets. These are usually very inexpensive, sometimes as little as $750.00 depending on make and model. The second option is a rebuilt motor, which is just what it sounds like: a used motor that has been completely rebuilt by people who specialize in that. They often run over $1,000.00 in cost but are warranted. The final option is a brand new engine which, even for a Ford, tend to be very pricey, about $1,700.00 for your vehicle if you have a 2.0 and a little more for the 2.3.
