One possibility is restricted exhaust. A vacuum test, (vacuum testers can be obtained very inexpensively) can give you a good idea of whether or not you have a problem with this. Restricted exhaust can cause power loss throughout the driving range, especially at idle speeds. Exhaust can become restricted from a variety of sources, and very often due to a catalytic converter that is becoming plugged. Has your service engine/check engine light come on at all? Also, do you have a noticeable lack of power versus what the car had when you bought it? Trouble going up hill? These answers might help narrow it down. The cutting out at highway speeds is also a frequent symptom of restricted exhaust. The higher the engine temperature the more noticeable the effect. As a second thought, it's also possible you may have a sticking valve, which could also be diagnosed with a vacuum test. Most vacuum testers available for purchased have fairly detailed instructions what to look for. If you do try this, be sure to write down results with detail and post them here. It may help myself or others to get a better idea what's going on.

Seems like the idle position sensor. Take your car to get a trouble code at most auto parts stores for free. Autozone, kragen's , Checker auto etc. They will give you a code of the possibilites of the problem. Not what the actual problem is.It is called an OBII code.Post the code and we can find out.

Have the engine checked for vacuum leaks, that will cause a high idle speed. As a 35 year veteran of auto repair I can tell you that engine flushs are a 100% waste of your hard earned money.

2000 dodge stratus 2.4l dohc stalls at stops starts up with very light touch of gas pedal may or may not stall again for a coule stops but will again rpms go from around 800 at idle to 500 then 200 th

If it's fuel-injected, you may need to have the injectors cleaned, and also, any air filters should be changed at the same time along with gas filter/s. If it's carbureted, the same as above, but have someone clean the carburetor completely. Make sure all air hoses are attached correctly, securely and NOT broken. If broken, replace them.

It sounds to me like there is a problem with your Idle Speed Control solenoid/motor. (ISC) These can sometimes fail without turning on the Check Engine light. If the Check Engine light is coming on while you are driving, you should have the computer system checked out first. This will lead you to the proper fix.

Vortec 4wd 2dr auto trans stalls while drive

you might want to look at your O2 sensors, they can cause the motor to run lean or rich. also you might have an electrical issue that is tripping your ECM. your electronic control module might be faulty. best solution is to get a trouble code reader and find out what your on board computer has stored. from there you can repair and clear the codes.

Idle irratic

Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Do you also hear any other noises when you push the brakes?
