On my mirror (the auto dimming type) there was a small round cap on the back of the mirror body and there is a small plastic screw under it and to tighten it you have to turn it counter clockwise.

There is Supposed to be an Adjustment Screw for this on the Shaft near the Ball. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

No solution. I have searched and search to solve this problem with no luck. there is no allen screws visible. The mirror, at the ball, not on the glass, is loose and allowes the mirror to drop as you drive. you have to keep lifitng it back up. Does anyone know th trick to this? Again -- there is not apparent screw around the ball swivle. What is the trick?

Here is the solution. I discovered this form another forum and so I'm passing it on. The round plastic cap on the back underside is not the solution, leave it alone. Here is the fix: Take a thin bladed knife and work the blade aroun the seam of the frame right in front of the mirror glass. this will pop the front frame loose and the mirror will come out, hooked to wires, easily. Behind this you will see a srew to tight the mirro ball tight. It is really simple when you know it will not hurt the mirror. Simply replace the mirror in its position, place the rim, or frame back in position and press into place -- problem solved. Good luck.

Loose screw rolling around in side view mirror assembly 1999 mazda miata

Usually the mirror is 'glued' to the moving parts of the inside. Most of the time one will need to remove the mirror and re-glue it back.

Need to tighten rear view mirror of 1997 Mercedes SL 500. It does not firmly stay positioned, it moves too freely. Failed safety inspection. New one cost $900 from dealer, can find used parts

OK what I put here is for the E class Mercedes of the same era. Generally Mercedes shares build concepts and ideas across different classes of car. The mirror assembly consists of a mirror frame socket fitted to ball on the end of a mount arm. If the mount on the SL is the same then the idea is to stop the mirror from moving freely on the ball. It should be possible to slip the end of a clothing pin(s) between the ball, which is steel, and the socket, which is plastic. Force it gently in and check for the degree of play in the mirror. Once the mirror is stiff clip the protruding remaining length of pin(s) away to keep things looking tidy. Crude, effective but, above all, much cheaper than $900

The glass in the driver side rear view mirror is loose. how do you tighten it up?

The driver and passenger side mirrors have a small rubber plug in the bottom center of the mirror housing. Remove the plug and there is a phillips head screw holding the mirror assembly. Tighten this screw about 1/8 turn and it will keep the mirror from moving around. If you remove the screw you can remove the mirror and drive motors. Use a bit of thread-lock to keep the screw from loosing again. Reinstall the rubber plug.

Eddie Bauer mirror replacements

is it an aero mirror with no arms?
Or a trailer tow mirror with arms?
The glass is repalceable. It is mounted on a center post with a ball on it. The mirror has a socket on the back center.
It also has 2 jack srews (plastic) that go into the tiny motors that move the mirror. You can push and pull on the glass and they will retchet, it won't hurt them.

You have to pop the mirror off the ball.

It helps to heat the socket with a hair dryer to put the new one on.
Please rate as fixya if this solves your problem.

Sideview mirrors dont move certain ways.

I researched the maintenance manual. The fuse you need to replace is fuse 20 in the under dash fuse box. It controls side windows, washer motor, rear view dim function, and possible seat memory. There are a couple that link to the mirrors, but this is the one for this problem.
