When you turn the headlights on, I get a low pitched squeal through the speakers, and when I accelerate the frequency of the sound gets higher in pitch, and does not stop. If the headlights are left on and I turn the dashlights off, the sound is not there.

Since it happens with the lights and the accelerator,It is the body ground module that is either loose or damaged.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described concern almost always indicates an alternator issue. More specifically, the regulator. The actual term is "alternator whine" and since it is coupled to the engine by the belt, the pitch would be affected by the RPM. The whine also rides on the DC voltage since the alternator charges the battery and therefore could be heard on the speakers.

A temporary workaround is to install filters/condensers to shunt the whine to ground although in the long run attending to the alternator now may be to your best advantage.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Welcome to Fixya! You have a Bad Ground Either inside the Dash or the Battery Ground is Loose. It could also be the Switch for the Lights that is Grounded. A Bad Ground will cause the Squelling through the Speakers. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler that has a high pitch SQUEALING sound when I release the accelerator. Any ideas what's causing it or how to fix it?.

I know i have the same problem, and i also noticed than when i open the Hood the whistle just stops, so i figure out it must be some air cycling in or out osmewhere, I found out my air intake connected to throttle body was misplaced a weird gap was left open allowing air to whistle. u might wanna check there

Breaks have a high pitch squeal when i break ata any speed. got breaks checked out and mechanic saidneverything was fine

A high pitch squeal is typically normal. However I have NEVER liked it.

I would replace your brakes with a higher quality brake pad, and see if you still have the problem.

Your pads can squeal when they are getting low, i would also get a second opinion on the condition of the pads.

Car makes a high-pitched squealing noise only while it is in lowest gear then stops once it gets up to 2nd or 3rd gear.

Check the belts for slippage and wear. If the tension is not correct, the belts will slip and create a "squealing" noise...moreso at higher rpms or on acceleration as you mentioned....That is the most common cause for a "squeel". I would check that first.
Good luck...i hope this helps fixya up.

High pitched squeal in engine

loose fan belt?

Put the car in neutral, set the parking brake, open the hood, get someone to listen/see where the sound is coming from, as you press on the accelerator.
