Grinding noise when letting off the gas

I replaced the bearings behind pinion flange in the rear end housing, they where worn out really bad,anyway after I put it all back together test drove it acelerated the gas seemed quite back to normal until I let off on the gas now it makes grinding noise only when letting off the gas any sugestions

First remove right rear tire and wheel and inspect rear brakes and drum for any problems,like a worn out brake shoe or a broken return spring.Also check brake drum for heavy scoring.If all the above look good rotate hub assy. and feel for any rough spots as you are rotating it.If you feel any roughness replace rear hub assemly.Hope this will help you.

You need to jack up that wheel and spin it by hand, if you hear the similar noise it is most likely a noisy wheel bearing. Also if you have revently driven over loose metal road could be stone lodged in disc assembly. Could also be the wear indicators on the disc pads "telling you" that the pads are nearly worn out.

the mechanical arm has come lose - this can be cheap or expensive depending on where it came loose - while getting an estimate once the first place removed the door panel - have them leave it off - drive to the next person for an estimate and see the price drop - if u can get the panel off - do that - - don't forget to try body shops for a price too -

My chevy truck make a clunking noise when I put it in reverse and when I drive the truck for a while it sound like the rear end start grinding when I take off from a complete stop. What could the prob


Check drive shaft assembly for worn u-joints.if OK check for worn pinion bearings or loose pinion nut.This can all be check shaking drive shaft at each end and looking for slop in u-joints or pinion flange.

Rear end on f-350 makes roaring noise. I checked oil level and it was ok. The oil seems to be very thin. Could wrong oil cause rear end noise?


Differential roaring noise is usually caused by a bearing that is worn or has pitting in the bearing race (half of bearing without rollers). A whining noise would be caused by worn ring and pinion gears. the roaring could be from the carrier bearings (two bearings holding the differential case to the axle housing) or fron the pinion bearings. The fluid is typically heavier but will seem thin when hot. The fluid isn't the causing of the noise but if the wrong fluid is in the differntial it could have caused the bearing to go bad which then causes the noise. good luck.

I am replacing the seal on the rear penion i need touqe specs on the nut


PINION FLANGE & OIL SEAL

CAUTION: Following procedure must be used to retain proper pinion bearing preload. Failure to follow procedure may result in premature axle assembly or component failure. Ensure pinion bearing preload is checked before disassembly, as previous pinion bearing preload will be used during reassembly.

Removal

1. Raise and support vehicle. Scribe reference mark on drive shaft-to-pinion flange on differential for reassembly reference. Remove bolts and "U" joint straps at pinion flange on differential.
Disconnect drive shaft from differential.
2. Remove rear wheels and brake drums to prevent any drag that may affect pinion bearing preload reading. Using INCH-lb. torque wrench, measure amount of force required to rotate pinion. This is pinion bearing preload. Record pinion bearing preload for reassembly reference.
3. Using Holder (6719), hold pinion flange. Remove pinion nut and washer. Scribe reference mark on pinion flange-to-pinion for reassembly reference. Using appropriate puller, remove pinion flange from pinion. Remove oil seal from axle housing.

Installation

1. Ensure oil seal surface in axle housing is clean. Coat lip of oil seal with gear lube. Install oil seal using appropriate seal installer. Drive oil seal into axle housing until oil seal installer contacts axle housing.
2. Install pinion flange on pinion with reference mark aligned. Using appropriate pinion flange installer, install pinion flange on pinion.

CAUTION: Washer must be installed on pinion with convex side of washer facing outward (away from pinion).

3. Install washer on pinion with convex side of washer facing outward (away from pinion). Install NEW pinion nut. Tighten pinion nut to 210 ft. lbs. (285 N.m). Rotate pinion several times to seat pinion bearings.

CAUTION: DO NOT overtighten or loosen then retighten pinion nut when adjusting pinion bearing preload. If pinion nut is overtightened, collapsible spacer on pinion must be replaced.

4. Rotate pinion using INCH-lb. torque wrench. Rotating torque should be equal to reading recorded in removal step 2) , plus 5 INCH lbs. (.056 N.m). If rotating torque is low, tighten pinion nut in small increments until proper rotating torque is obtained.
5. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure using NEW "U" joint straps and bolts. Ensure all reference marks are aligned. Tighten bolts to specification. Check lubricant level and add if necessary.

this means the ring and pinion gear are worn, but when u do the gears u will need to also replace all the bearings as well.

If its low on fluid it could be the bearings in the end the axle tubes, i dont think the ring and pinion would be bad until you hear grinding sounds. hope that helps

Howling noise while driving.


Need a little humor now and then, anyway it sounds like you have a pinion gear bearing that's noisy, they really howl when they get worn out, in order to change this bearing the rear end gears must be removed, new bearings should be installed on all parts, 4 total, the metal from the failed pinion bearing will ruin the rest of the bearings, might as well only do it once, also change the axle bearings and seals while you are in there.
