Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, check the 40 pin connector behind the the right front kick panel and just below the fuse box. Look for corroded/burned pins/terminals. Clean/scrape to expose fresh metal. It may also help to check the fuses, look for frayed wires, loose connection and anything else out of the ordinary.

Postback results and we can work from thereon. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

The body control computer could be the problem .i would suggest have the computer flashed at a dealer.if relay was bad the ac light would not flash there would be no light at all.thanks for choosing fixya!

Which fuse box on the 2011 Chevy Malibu is the fuse for the rear defrost

Fuse box rear , fuse #23 30 amp ! Do you know where this is located ? There is also a relay for the Rear window defogger , located in the same rear fuse box .
Fuse Block - Rear
Left side of the luggage compartment, behind the left rear wheel well . But you really need to know how it works , you can check fuse an relay .
Rear Window Defogger Operation
Battery positive voltage is supplied through the BATT 1 fuse in the underhood fuse block to the rear defog relay switched input. When the rear defog switch button is pressed, the body control module (BCM) energizes the rear defog relay by providing a B+ to the control circuit of the rear defog relay. This allows battery positive voltage from the relay switched input through the switch contacts and out the relay switched output to the rear window defogger grid. The HVAC control module houses the rear defog switch and also illuminates the rear defog indicator on the switch button, upon this request. Ground for the rear window defogger grid is provided by G301 for the Sedan or G302 For the Extended Sedan.

My rear window defogger won't defog. I pushed the button and the light comes on but it still won't work. I checked the fuses, and replaced the relay but it still won't work. I thought maybe I need to...

check the supply that goes into the rear screen. that connector must have power when switch is "on". if got power, you need to change the window.....
