This problem can be solved depending on the engine type.Based on the volvo 760 2.8 model.
You have two flywheel sensors attached.
Could be that because one runs by the exhaust manifold it tends to become brittle and the sensor loses its integrity. The fault will get worse.
Better to get it done and if your buying new they are not cheap.they come in pairs around the £114-120 mark
Hope this helps

Mahindra 3505DI runs smooth under 2000RPM, above that it starts smoking and stuttering very badly. I have replaced the fuel filters with no change. Any ideas?

-Sounds like there is not a problem. How about
try clean the air filter it might change. Look like the air filter is clogged so there is not enough air ratio.

Good luck

Engine wont rev above 2000rpm

If you have a hih miles truck,it is very possoble you have aclogged cat.Have a muffler shop test pressure in front and behind by drilling small holes, checkin w/gauge,then welding back. This should be free if you replace the cat.

I got some serious problems with my 1988 volvo 760 turbo. It has about 159,000 miles. It has the B230FT engine. It was running great when I bought it about 3 months ago. It started with stalling once and a...

The bearings in the turbo may be shot. Check the shaft in the turbo if you can wiggle it around its bad and will need to be replaced or rebuilt.

Ignition timing specs for a 1988 volvo 760 turbo wagon ?

It is most likely going to be between 5 and 15 degrees BTDC. I would put it at 5 degrees BTDC. At idle, if the motor is extremely quiet, but the exhaust loud, move it to 10. As you advance the timing, the motor should become louder and the exhaust quieter (at idle). As you increase RPMs, the motor should get quieter and the exhaust louder. This is only true with an injector pump that has static timing (does not automatically increase with increased RPM).
If your engine has dynamic timing (automatically advances with increased RPM), then I would set the timing at 5 degrees, test run. Maybe change to 7 degrees, test run...etc. Basically, don't make dramatic changes with the injector pump timing if it is dynamic. I hope this helps.

Engine miss above 2000 rpm

sounds like a valve problem. check compression running and non-running. valve sealing at higher rpm is usually a valve spring problem is if runs ok at idle.
