Where or what is a detoneation circuit

I have a 1993 nissan xe 30e engine . my ecu code pointed me to the air flow meter or detonation circuit..i am assuming the airf flow meter is my mass air handler,,where or what is my detonation circuit ?

The detonation sensor is usually located on the side of the engine block - it is a cylindrical sensor that screws into the side of the block (and has one electrical conection) that picks up engine detonation and relays that back to the ECM to ****** the ignition timing when "spark knock" occurs. I'd bet the Air Flow meter is the culprit however, det sensor rarely go bad....

What causes codes #24 & #31 air flow meter signal on 1993 Toyota Camry to show up

24 is an air intake temperature circuit fault
31 is a fault in the MAP sensor circuit or air flow meter circuit.

It may be that there is a short or corrosion in the wiring connections to that area of the engine intake tract. Disconnect and reconnect these a few times to see if the fault is cleared.

Note: to clear trouble codes you will have to remove the EFI main fuse for 30 sec. See here p 299

The output of these 2 codes simultaneously points to the ENGINE coolant temp sensor ground circuit being broken somewhere (E2 connection). See above link p356. Using this info you can also test the sensors in the air intake.

Rattling noises when lightly accelerating

A light rattle is often 'pinging' or pre-detonation caused by using fuel of too low an octane rating. The puzzling thing here is that the knock sensor should send a signal to the car's computer (ECU) to cause it to adjust the ignition timing.

- is the check engine light blinking? If so get a readout of the trouble code held by the ECU, from a mechanic.
- fill up with fuel of a higher octane rating such as premium unleaded to see if that makes a difference. If so, have a mechanic check the knock sensor.

Code P0403 Came up on computer, would that cause engine tapping?

code p0403 refers to exhaust gas recirculation (ERG)--circuit malfunction===causes wiring--EGR solenoid---ECM. The tapping you are hearing is detonation due to incorrect ignition timing or air- fuel is wrong for the rpm of the engine. It is an uncontrolled ignition of the mixture in the chamber and will do damage to the engine it not fixed.. The EGR valve is used to re-introduce exhaust gases into the combustion chamber to stop the detonation and to burn the unburnt exhaust gas. So yes it will cause your problem and should be replaced.

Nissan vg30e detonation sensor

The sensors both of them are located under the intake manifold. Make sure you also replace the short sub wire harnesses to them as that is as much a problem as the sensor itself for setting fault codes.

Petrol car sounds like a diesel

It sounds like your engine is pinging and if left unchecked, can seriously damage your engine. It could be the detonation inside the combustion chamber is no longer ideal. This can be caused by improper ignition timing, an overly hot engine, bad EGR valve

Engine cuts out and shudders at 3000 rpm won't accelerateobd code p0332 2002 jaguar x type 3.0 l

P0332 - Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)

This sensor signals the engine-control computer when detonation is detected, momentarily retarding ignition timing until detonation ceases.

Most computer-controlled systems use knock sensors to ****** timing when the engine is experiencing pinging or knocking.

Obviously, a faulty knock sensor produces problems that appear to be ignition-system-related. If the knock sensor system does not provide an engine detonation signal to the PCM (powertrain control module), the engine detonates, especially on acceleration.
  • The first step in diagnosing the knock sensor and knock sensor module is to check all the wires and connections in the system for loose connections, corroded terminals, and damage.
  • With the ignition switch on, be sure that 12 volts are being supplied through the fuse to the knock sensor module.
  • A quick check of a knock sensor is to watch the ignition's timing while the engine is running and the engine block is tapped with a hammer.
    • The noise should cause a change in timing.
  • The knock sensor can also be checked by tapping near the sensor and watching for an AC pulse on a DMM or lab scope.

Rb26 knock in da engine

could be detonation if the cylinders run a diagnostic on the ecu. the rb26 is sophisticated enough to give very detailed info about it. if its a big problem ill buy the engine... just tossin that out there....
