I start the car its fine about 5 miles down the road or so car will start losing power not shutting off but just wont accelerate. the only way to speed up is to put the pedale to the floor and it slowly picks up. the service engine soon light is on had it checked they said it was the oxygen sensor replaced that and still had the same problem. what can i do?
When a oxygen sensor is bad it shows and acts as if there is problem somewhere in the car. even though you had the O2 censor changed there is still a chance that when they ordered and installed it that it was defected. yeah its stupid but that was what i was told by a mechanic. but thats what that sounds like or maybe transmission.

The 2005 Ford Escape has 24 complaints for engine shutdown while driving. Average repair ... This problem caused my car to quit while driving down the road, it could have ended in and accident. ... I was 80 miles from home when the engine shut off. ... Was going to take it to the mechanic on Monday and the car just died.
sounds like a fuel problem, how many miles on vehicle? as a quick fix it would be worth using a fuel addative , you haven't said if petrol or diesel, if petrol get addative that covers the catalytic converter ,having a blocked exhaust system can cause engine to stall also get the OBD codes read as this will tell you what if any sensors/switch's are faulty
ok and XL 7 but what engine options. gas, diesel, 2L , 2.5L? what? and most important , and never ever 1 time stated on this forum what country. leaping?
im not sure what you are saying. it runs ok cold, and as it warms , the engine. it stalls.? and what does same thing mean.? my guess, it starts fine then stalls; hot. but can you save the stall?
stalling is complex. can be many systems in the car. but can be broken down to : Ever did the 60k mile tune up,ever? if not why not. never skip 60k\'s or the motor will run like garbage.
1: lost electrical power. to EFI . 2: bad engine, in that when it gets hot , it loses compression. 3: lost park. 1 or more cylinders, 4 or 6 you never said. 4: bad injection. 1 or 6 of them, flooding or starving. 5: bad fuel. 6:EGR sticking , usually this happens just before a stop sign. 7: if the stall was a bog and the fast right foot saved the stall, easy the ISC is sticking closed.
