How do I change the windshield washer pump?

Your windsheild washer resovoir will need to be removed. Unplug the wiring harness. Your pump is on the bottom of the resovoir. Drain the resovoir, and pop off the retainer cotter slot pin. Remove the excess fill hose. Careful not to pinch or tear the gaskets around the bottom of the resovoir. and reverse steps above to install.

Refer to this photo to see what your pump looks like;

Have to replace water pump on 98 Ford Taurus. Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated before I get out in the snow and cold to fix this.

You can change the water pump by doing these steps:

  • With the engine off and cold, o pen the hood and locate the vehicle’s radiator and water pump.
  • Remove the radiator cap.
  • Install a pressure tester on the radiator. Apply the pressure indicated on the radiator cap or in the owner’s manual.
  • Inspect the water pump for leaks. Remove the pressure tester.
  • Place a drain pan under the radiator. Open the drain valve or remove the lower radiator hose to drain the cooling system.
  • Remove the drive belts or serpentine belt.
  • Remove any hoses connected to the water pump.
  • Unbolt the water pump from the engine. Remove the water pump.
  • Using a gasket scraper, clean the mounting surface on the engine block.
  • Install a new gasket and attach the new water pump to the engine with the original mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Re-install any hoses and belts that were removed.
  • Re-install the drain plug or lower radiator hose.
  • Refill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water. Pressure test the cooling system and check for leaks.
  • Check and fill the overflow reservoir with coolant.
  • Leave the radiator cap off and start the engine. Idle the engine to remove trapped air from the cooling system. Add coolant if necessary.
  • Install the radiator cap.
  • Road test the vehicle and monitor the temperature gauge. If the vehicle runs hot, there may be an air pocket in the cooling system. Allow the engine to cool off and add the necessary coolant.

2000 Chrysler Sebring windsheild washer pump

check the fuse panel for weak or blown fuse in the wiper/washer circuit if that all checks ok then using a test light or volt meter then find the washer pump leads at the bottom of the washer pump itself and with the circuit activated make sure you have 12 volts going to it also check the ground wire to it to insure proper ground if voltage is present then remove the motor assembly from the washer housing and relace the motor

Leaking windsheild washer resevoir- have replaced the pump and it still leaks. last year it froze.

When it froze, likely it cracked somewhere. You can try finding the crack and gluing it but most of those are difficult to remove and you may be better off finding a good one in a scrapyard and just swapping it out.

Dodge 2000 minivan,water pump leaking

Make sure it's cool, pop the radiator cap, Remove the shield on the passenger side between the tire and front of engine. Relieve the tension on the serp belt, draw yourself a diagram of the pulleys and belt routing in case the sticker is gone on the strut tower, remove the serp belt. Take the bolts out of the pulley on the front of the water pump (3). Remove the lower radiator hose at the front cover to drain the coolant. Remove the 6 mm bolts holding the water pump to the front cover housing. tap on the pump with a rubber hammer. Install a new gasket on the new pump, and a weap hole diverter in the pump (round black about hte size of a quarter), use old one if there's no new one. Install pupm and tighten bolts snug with a 1/4" ratchet. Install pulley and 3 bolts. Install belt, top off radiator with 50/50 mix green coolant. start engine and run to operating temperature, make sure the belt is seated in all of the pulleys and is running true, radiator fans should come on. Shut engine down and let cool overnight. Check level in radiator and overflow bottle, top off as necessary.
