Re: The rearview mirror on a 2001 Nissan Xterra.
It may be a fuse, but I think that all the dash lights are on the same fuse and if they work, then there is a bulb located inside the rear view that needs to be accessed to be replaced. I would check all fuses with key on and lights on, both sides with a test light, and if all read good then it'll be the bulb.

2003 Chevy Silverado our rearview mirror has gone off and the airbag light stays on. i've determined that this is a fuse, the SIR fuse under the hood, but what I can't figure out is why it's blowing. It's either something to do with when we hook up the lights to the trailer or it might be from where we installed a new car stereo. I took it to the Chevy dealer for some other things and told them there was a fuse blown to the rearview mirror and to the airbag and just asked them to replace the fuse while it was in the shop. on top of the $700 i was already spending, they charged me $98 to diagnose that it was a blown fuse and like $11 to change it, even though I already told them it was the airbag fuse. Highway robbery. And they wonder why we don't like 'em.
My airbag light will not cut off and my temp and compass on my rearview mirror cut off the same time it went out too... I changed the fuse because it was blown... it works for a couple of days and then cuts back off... I took it to the dealership and they did a dianogstic check and can't find the problem
Yes. Look in the Fuse Panel inside the Truck. Use a Good Maglight or LED Flashlight and Hold it Behind the Fuses to see the Blown Ones. It is usually in an AUX Outlet. Also check thr Fuse Relay Box under the Hood for a Blown Fuse using the Same Method. See if there is a Relay for this also. If so, Replace it. Let me know if you need any more Help! Hiya...ALL factory-installed rearview mirrors are installed with different wires due to options.
About 6 different rearview mirrors are installed with those options such as On-Star, light, compass, and those features which use different wires....THIS CANNOT be modified with different rearview mirror....**for example, the Equinox owner attempt to pull out a factory-installed base rearview mirror and put in different one that has compass/temperature built into the rearview mirror**
However, the wires are located inside the front headliner which requires removing the sunvisor (and possible removal of interior plastic trim part at the left/right ends of the windshield) prior to pull the headliner down, and a small metal philips or torx screw is used to secure the rearview mirror onto the bracket glued to the windshield.
The best solution is to leave the original factory-installed rearview mirror in place.
