Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Car shuts off somethimes..

I recently put my 2000 ford focus in the shop... When I would drive the car for a while the car would start jerking and eventually shut off... I would start it back up again and it would go for a while and then eventually shut off again.. Before it would shut off the gas peddle would go down and the car would start to **** ... I put it i the shop and they told me it was the fuel pump... they changed it out and when I took the car out of the shop about 3 days later it started to do the same thing again .... But it does this for a while and it had been driven for about a week until we had the same thing happen to it again.. Note the shop I took it to is a friends shop and I would have trusted him to fix the car but now I don't know what to do .. I don't want to take it back to them Because I've taken it to them about 2 -3 times for the same problem ... Someone please help me figure out whats wrong with my car...

Hi! i had the same problem! i had to replace my fuel pump and the sending unit. i had a recall on one of them! Im pretty sure it was the fuel pump and i took it to a well known garage in my area and it fixed my problem. maybe u just got a bad fuel pump or something! good luck and hopefully it will get fix. by the way mine also is a 2000 model. check the recalls. call any of the garages and they will look it up and tell you. u just need to known the vin #.

i recently had this issue with my 2001 taurus dohc engine. when you drive it seems that everything is fine. when you stop, the car will idle very low and somethimes shut off. there is a hose under the throttle body that is attached to the pcv valve. over time, this hose will collapse and eign to tear. i replace that hose (autozone for $10) and it solved my idling problem.

Have a 2001 ford focus. first central locking suddenly stopped working and can#t even lock door with key. Now the speedometer and odometer keep dropping to 0 and then back up again and today the engine...

I would test your alternator..when you car isnt charging and battery voltage drops below 9.6 volts your instrument cluster will perform a reset...or shut for the door locks im not entirely sure why they would stop working...good luck

I have a 2003 ford focus 5 speed, recently while driving at about 50mph i could feel the car hesitate like it was wanting to cut off fast foward a few weeks and its hesitateing jerking and not picking up...

I would assume that whom ever you went to,
didn't even test drive the car.

You never leave a vehicle at a shop, that you
do not go for a test drive, with you driving, you can switch
on the way back to the shop

There a too many possible things to check & test to
write a book on here

The TPS Sensor
The Egr Valve
Ignition Misfires
Fuel Pressure Issues

That is just a few common things

You know there is a problem
You also know that being told they could not find
anything is unacceptable

It is especially hard the last 20 years, and very difficult to find
a repair shop & even a dealer sometimes, that is
knowledgeable enough or willing to spend time
to help you

Takes too long

Costs you too much

The shop looses money,as the
quick jobs keep the money coming
in ,so they stay in business, barely

Check engine light came on and car is jerking and acts funny in low gears

could be the iac valve, idle air control valve.
at the beginning check for air leaks, a scanner will be enough for to know the reason,

After driving for an hour or to at 60 mph on the highway the car starts sputtering and jerking and losing power, then eventually shuts down. After 10 minutes it starts up and runs fine for about 40 minutes...

Sounds like a fuel pump to me. Some focus' have an extended warranty on them from Ford due to so many problems. Fuelumps won't always set trouble codes.
