Question about 1994 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Car engine runs fine but quit going forwards or reverse.

When you put it into gear there is a grinding noise. I was told to look at the speedometer and see if it was moving and it is not so I think I have a bad transaxle. But my question is why can I move this car in neuteral when a car I had in the past when the transaxle went it was not movable

The car will not go in gear it only makes a grinding noise. So I am left to supose that it is the transaxle or a drive shaft.

It may just be the Speedometer Cable that is Bad if you can Still Move the Car. I would get a Cable from a Salvage Yard and Check this First. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

In this case, I would have a Transmission Expert Check the Transmission. It sounds like you May need a Traanny Rebuild.

You're out of transmission fluid. Put in a quart where you pull the dip-stick out from and start the engine. Drive it a minute, check the fluid while running, put more in if needed.

No Reverse and the fluid is dirty and smells funny.

Sounds like you blew out your reverse belt/gear in the transmission. Probably going to need a transmission rebuild/replacement.

What is it when in reverse the automatic transmission on a 1999 Camaro grinds?

Reverse is not "synchronized" forward gears are, so it does make some noise, try shifting to 2nd before engaging reverse to slow gear rotation and limit gear clash or grind.

TAPPING NOISE, NOW IT WON'T GO INTO GEAR WITHOUT LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND ACTS LIKE TRANSMISSION WON'T ENGAGE TO DRIVE

If it is an automatic transmission, first check the fluid level. If it is low, fill it up and try it again. If the level is fine, then there is a bigger issue and you should seek a professional's help.

Check the front engine mount..If its bad it could make a noise while turning or reverse..Hold the car in gear with your foot on the brake and carefully raise the engine ..do it in both reverse or forward and look for excessive movement..

Cant shift? reverse grinds? and pressure in clutch is low

What you describe sounds very much like the clutch is failing to disengage.
Fluid level being fine and no leaks under the car is good, but doesnt mean there isnt something wrong with either the master cylinder, slave cylinder, or the associated parts.

Highly unlikely there is a fault with the flywheel or clutch as failures with these would normally give no drive in any gear.

Engine runs vehicle wont move Possible ring gear? 84 Topaz

Is it a metal shaft? When you put it in drive does it make any noise? Does the speedometer move? Does it make a loud clicking sound when you put it back in Park?
