The reason I'm asking about oil brand name, as in Mobil, Kendall, Castrol, is that I suddenly started using a quart every 50 miles on a car that never used oil before, after I had it changed one time. I always used Castrol, & the garage used a different brand, that went through it like water. Changed back to Castrol & it stopped using oil again.

Not sure of your location but it appears your engine doesn't have PCV valve, so I'd give it a little time without towing, and if it continues to use oil, change back to 10w30, and if that doesn't cure it, would advise a compression test (wet & dry) before going too much further. Mechanic should know why (wet & dry) test, and if he doesn't, then he's not the guy to work on it.

1990 corolla burning oil but no leak

Not sure I follow you on the part about it getting worse when you accelerate, but generally speaking an engine burns oil when the rings or valve seals are worn.

Honda accord 2004 4dr ex is burning oil

If the car has not overheated before, the reason you have oil burn are the valves stem seals became hard due to the engine age and can not hold oil going through valve in the combustion chamber and mixed with fuel mixture and burned, causing your back exhaust emitting blue smelly smoke. For repair a qualified mechanic is required.

Burning oil

Not really. If your piston rings are worn down and letting oil into the top of cylinder where it can be burned, only an engine overhaul with new rings will stop it. Lucas oil conditioner products, Marvel mystery oil, anything like that might help a little, but won't stop the oil burning. Start saving money for a rebuild or replacement engine. Good luck.

Blowing blue smoke on light quick acceleration on a toyota corolla 1990 after oil change oil level is normal

It sounds like your engine is burning engine oil. Depending how severe this problem may be , keep checking your oil level often. You may want to try an additive called ``NO SMOKE`` by Bardhall. It`s the only additive that actually works and the only additive I would suggest to buy. I don`t have confidence on many additives sold on shelves but I`ve used it and seen it work.

1990 Honda civic Burning a quart of oil every 300 miles??????

that's a lot of oil
assuming nothing is leaking and you truly are burning it then you have two typical suspects...
1.) rings
2.) valve guides

compression test and cylinder leak down test will confirm which is bad

either case you are looking at a "rebuild" which is almost impossible to find anyone that will "rebuild" an engine @ 1,000+

or

installing a "rebuilt or remanufactured" engine @ $2,000+

or

you might be able to find someone that will just replace the worn out parts for less than $500
However, how long will it be before the next part fails

or

beleive it or not, if you search hard, you can find imported "USED" engines with less than 30,000 miles for under $1,000... however, you have to install them yourself or pay someone $750+ to install

look on the positive battery cable, follow it to a junction,or to the stater, there will be some fusible links there, that will be burned into, but replace them with fusible links, and find out why they burned out.

Oil leak and oil burning

if your oil burning is upon start up then i would suggest you get your valve seals replaced while you are getting your valve covers done if its a non-stop while it runs then its your rings if you opt to get the valve seals fixed you would be looking at probably $250 but your gaskets would be included the deciding factor for me would be the amount of oil consumption and how much i would save in the long run good luck
