Question about 2002 Land Rover Freelander

1 Answer

Engine Undertray I purchased a 2000 Freelander with L series engine a while ago and have just come to service it for the first time. The Haynes manual I have says to remove the screws from the underengine cover and remove. I have removed the 2 bolts towards the rear of the tray but the tray will not come away. There are 4 rivets through the tray and I am beginning to suspect these should be screws which I can remove. Am I correct and can I therefore drill the rivets out and replace them?

Yes you can drill them out, and replace them with more rivets, are i would replace them with small sheet metal screws. So later on if you had to remove this cover again. You could do this with no problem.

Joseph, check the fuse distribution panel in the engine compartment; your car's owner's manual should have the diagram & labeling to that panel and the fuse panel in the cabin compartment; sometimes diagrams are on the covers too.
If that's a problem, purchase or download service repair manual specific to your vehicle.

2003 land rover freelander timing problems

Get the service manual made by Haynes for your 2003 Freelander. I do not know what manual you are using, but if the valves are hitting, the marks on the timing gears were NOT aligned properly before the timing chain was put on! Be sure you don't try to start the engine until you follow the EXACT procedure...competent or not!

Freelander 1.8 workshop manual

buy your self a haynes manual and a older rover 216 from a scrapyard for the engine K series ,better still if your country laws allow and thats to get hold of the honda engine from a rover or honda the rover with the honda engine and swop it over for the honda engine then it will run forever and a day but the original engine is prone to faults blamable on the head gasket when in fact its a engine with wet liners and the bottom seal goes so everyone who doesnt know how to check the liner height blames the head gasket ,Lot of unskilled mechanics about who are only oil changers in reality who are only too willing to charge you the earth for junk repairs but then iam biased as i always seem to end up putting their work right .

Starter motor is on the way out. There is no return when they start clicking. Replace is most likely required. Just go second hand. Cant help with manuals sorry.

Engine timing for a 1998 subaru forester with a 2.5

Since ignition timing is taken care of by the ECU, I guess you are asking about cam timing.
There are several marks to be aligned and if you get them wrong, you may trash your engine so I am only going to suggest you buy a Haynes service manual that has numerous good pix that show you exactly how to avoid killing your engine. And, unless you have a good-size vice well-mounted, compressing the belt tensioner again is going to give you fits.
The Haynes number you need is 89100 but it is listed only as a manual for the Legacy which uses the same engine but there may be less info that is usable on your '98 forester for which Haynes does not make a specific manual.
The later book that I have, 89101, covers all models from 2000 to 2006.
