1997 VW golf - I have the radio code but how do I put it in?

Hi!! I need to reset my radio - asked at the dealership and they gave me the code but I don't know how to enter it. When I turn the radio on the number 1 appears. I press 1 on the radio setting and another number appears below the first one - my first number of the code is 5 - how do I put that in and then move on to the next number which is 2?? This is an older model - does anyone have the instructions please??? Thanks!!!

Hi - my radio needs resetting after a flat battery. I have the code - I need to know the exact steps of how to add the code. The VW golf is a 1997 model. When the radio is on, safe does NOT appear followed by 1000 - I must have a older radio. All that appears in the display is a number 1. Help please. Thanks!

LEt us know if you have solved your problem already.

If not use the arrow on your radio front buttons to enter the numbers on radio code, use the central button to accept each code.

Thanks.

First start the radio, the SAFE word should appear on the screen.3 second later the number 1000 should also appear.
second, use the station button (1 to 4) to enter the code of your radio. For the "0" push the button until it comes to zero 0 and it is supposed to appear after the number 9.
third, push the right side of the seek button more than 2 seconds, you should ear a beep. If it is the right number, you should see LSM written on the screen. VOILA!!

*************************************************************

You will need to re-enter the radio security code. At some point the radio must have lost all power and when it came back on, it went into the security mode.
The coding process to enter the security code is activated by holding the MODE and SCAN buttons depressed. The security code is entered by using the first four radio station preset buttons.
The code is in the radio owner's manual. If you do not have the radio owners manual, take the car to a Volkswagen Dealer and they can get it for you.

Once you get to number entry mode, use the first radio key to enter the first number. If the first number in the code is 5, press the first preset button 5 times. The second number of the code is the second preset key, the third code number is the 3rd button and so on.

After you have entered the complete code correctly, press the > button for more than 2 seconds and you should get a beep.

If you incorrectly entered the code, you can attempt the procedure 2 more times, and then will be locked out for an hour before you can try again.

Perform the steps in exactly the following order:
    1. Turn on the Radio. "Safe" will appear in the display.
    2. After 3 seconds, the number "1000" will appear in the display.
    3. Use the radio station preset buttons 1 to 4 to enter the code number found on your Radio Card. (which was in the first page of Sound manual )
Use preset button 1 to enter the first digit in the code number. Use button 2 to enter the second digit, etc. The value range for each of the 4 digits is "0-9". The digit will increase by 1 each time you tap the preset button. The number returns to "0" after 9".
    4. After you finish entering the code, press the right side (">") of the SEEK button for longer than 2 seconds until you hear an audible signal.
    5. If you have entered the code number corectly, "LSM" wll appear in the display. (I just was the radio channel indicator and then everything was working as usual).

If you enter the wrong code by mistake:

If you've accidnetally entered a wrong code number, "SAFE" will appear in the display. Initially it'll flash, then stay on.

You can repat the procedure again one time.
(So, 2 attempts then 1 hour locked)
If the wrong code number is entered again, the unit will be disabled for about 1 hour. Leave the unit on and the key in the ignition swithch for this hour.

Welcome to Fixya! heres what u do , switch radio on , safe appears in radio display , followed by 1000 approximately 3 seconds later , input the security code found on the radio card using the station preset buttons on the radio , Button 1 corresponds to the first number in the security code , 2 is the second and so on . press the applicable button repeatedly until the desired number appears in the display , ( press button 1 three times if the first number is 3 ), when the entire code has been input and appears on the display , press the right side of the seek button for longer than 2 seconds until an audible signal is heard , ,,, if you do not get this procedure correct , in 2 attempts , the radio will lock up for 1 hour before you can try again .. if this happens , leave the radio on for minimum 1 hour without touching it , after that time you may try again .. Try this and let me know if it does not Work. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

You need to call the dealership to get the unlock code. They are going to need proof of ownership.

Stock radio will not work

there is a radio code you need but if the radio says only safe look in you manual for the instruction on how to put in code if you do not have the code anywhere then sadly enough the dealer is the only one that can get your code for you.

Hi, problem with 2007 VW Citi Golf radio security code.

The radio is in Lock-Out mode. You only get two attempts to enter the code, then it enters Lock-Out mode.
Put the key in ignition and turn on the radio for an hour (maybe a bit more). The radio should reset itself after about an hour and then you can re enter the code.

1995 VW GOLF RADIO CODE

I just replied to someone having the same problem with a Honda and saw one of the sponsors pop up in the Ads by Google box to the right that may help. I think with Hondas you have to go to the dealership where the car/radio was originally purchased and give them some numbers from the radio. The sponsor may charge to get the number for you but it may be worth a few bucks if that is the only solution. I didn't catch the web address or name - sorry.

Vw golf .... alpha...... safe 2

"2 safe" means that your radio was in safe mode, and then the code was improperly entered 2 times. you either need to disconnect your battery and leave it for up to 4 hours (i've been told), or leave your key in the ignition for around an hour.

once it comes out of "2 safe" mode, then it will just say SAFE and give you the numbers 1-0-0-0. You just need to enter the 4 digit code (using your pre-set numbers 1-2-3-4 to change the numbers), then hold the seek > button and your radio should come on.

If you don't have the code, call VW. they'll find your code for free. they did for me. if not they'll charge like $50 or something.
