Question about 1988 Ford F 150

1 Answer

Truck is surging

1988 Ford F150 4.9 liter 6 cylinder with ported fuel injection, manual transmission. When I get to a steady speed the truck will surge. It will not do it when the engine is cold, but will do it when it is at normal operating temperature. I replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, cap & rotor, fuel filter, air filter, breather element, and changed the oil. No fix to the problem. Any idea what could be wrong?

1988 ford t bird has a vaccum leak think its going to brake booster but cant find it. 3.8 liter v-6 fuel injected motor

Use a can of starter fluid and spray around your vacuum hoses while engine is running (spray very lightly). Since the vacuum comes from the engine your engine will rev up when you get close to the leaking hose. Good luck

My husband wants to know what type of transmission fluid to use in his truck.

Ask your local parts shop. They have listing for which oil it should be.

What type if transmission fluid is used for 1988 Toyota truck 5 speed fuel injected

80w90 but have heard people putting 15w40 in it in real cold weather because the gear oil gets real thick in extremely cold temps.

1988 ford ranger manual truck can not shift

Look and see if there is a second master cylinder under the hood of your truck, near the brake master cylinder, in fornt of the driver's seat.
This would be the clutch master cylinder, and should be slightly smaller than the brake nmaster cylinder.
From your description, that clutch master cylinder may be out of fluid, brake fluid.
Probably your slave cylinder has failed, it is attached to your transmission on the other (lower end) of the brake line from the firewall master cylinder.
Adding brake fluid might get the clutch to work long enough to get your car to a garage or up on some ramps so you can fix it.
Be blessed

Just bought the 1988 Toyota pickup and don't know what size engine in it. I need to change the oil and need to know what type.

If it's a 4 cylinder it's a 2.4 liter. If it's a 6 cylinder it's a 3.0 liter. The 2.4 liter engine comes with a carb, Fuel injection or even a turbo. Either way the 2.4 and the 3.0 take the same oil filter. The bosch is # 3330. I hope this helped and good luck.

Truck runs rough

Sounds like one of your chambers isn't firing. Run your car for a few minutes, shut it off then pull your plugs one at a time and see if one of them is wet. Might just need a new plug.

The truck died,it will fire then dies, its a 1990 with a 351 fuel injection.the fuel pump is working, changed the filter, there is fuel in the line for the injectors

check to see if you have a flapper valve that operates your feul injection if you do you might have to replace it.
