Go down to the store and pick up a light perfurably advance and put it under the hood ur lines r gelling it sounds like hook it up 10 to 15 minits befor u turn it over it might cut down the time of the starting ratio in half.but thats all i know about this

The glow plugs are usually the first thing to change. You can check your fuel pressure with a gauge or by undoing the fuel rail bolt slightly and turning the engine over to see if it purges out. You may need to reprime the engine if it does. If it isn't the glow plugs or the fuel I would suggest a deeper problem such as the solenoid on the starter motor

Ford F-350 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel very hard to start when cold.

have you ever replaced the glow plugs on your truck.this would be the first place to start with a cold start problem.the next thing would be a fuel pump problem to check.

The Powerstroke motor has a few things that can make it hard to start. trying to diagnose it over the internet can be a daunting task. I would go to "the Diesel stop" on the internet, they are a forum dedicated to just Ford Diesel trucks. If you register (free) there is a section for your year. I am a member there along with over 100,000 members and you will probably get the answer you need there.

I have a 1989 international truck w/ 7.3 litre diesel. Same engine as in 1989 ford f-350 diesel. Trouble starting. I replaced glow plugs and glow plug controller / relay. Still problem starting do not want...

you answered your own question with # 1
the fuel leak is doing opposite when starting it is sucking
air . i had the same problem on mine,
it also let the fuel drain back to the tank that then
takes forever to reprime itself
hope this helps

Getting lots of white smoke and rough running till it warms up, just thinking if glow plugs if I can do it myself on 1989 ford diesel in an old ambulance we plan to resurrect

if you are going to resurect something that old,you might just as well start with the glow plugs ,easy job . and that is your problem,so your first diagnostic was good. it isnt hard, if you get into strife yell out .

HAVE YOU REPLACED ALL YOUR GLOW PLUGS RECENTLY? EVEN THOUGH THE GLOW PLUGS APEAR TO BE WORKING I FIND WITH AGE THEY NO LONGER HEAT UP QUICKLY ENOUGH BEFORE CONTROLER TIMES OUT. THEREFOR CREATES A HARD OR NO START CONDITION.

1992 F-350 Dsl - very hard to start when cool

are you using cold temperature engine oil!
if not, try changing oil for cold temperature!

hard starting happens due to the cold temperature, air pressure is low during this season so compression inside the engine is low resulting to hard starting!

make sure that all your glow plugs are working.
