Question about 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

1992 chevrolet cavalier: Power locks

This car has key entry locks (not operated by a remote). Inside on both doors (below the horizontal push lock) there is a switch that is supposed to lock/unlock the doors electronically. Also, the doors are suppose to automatically lock while in drive.

When I push this switch, I can here a clicking sound, that sound electronic, but the lock will not budge unless it is manually opend or closed.

What would cause the power locks not to work.

MY Cavalier ignition key not turning, also the shift lever not moving. The car starts by remote control, but when press on brake the ignition turns off. Please advise. Mustafa

sounds like an internal problem with the ignition switch lock cylinder. something may have happened to one of the tumblers inside. since the key can not be turned the safety lock will not let the shifter come out of gear and as far as the remote starting goes. the car shutting off when you push the brake is a safety/anti-theft system. i would recomend a visit to your local gm dealer. they can possibly fix your lock cyl or get you one keyed for you car so your original key still operates everything. you can also get them at an aftermarket parts store or salvage yard but then you will have different keys for you locks and your ignition. hope this is of help to you

Unlock door of 2004 cavalier without key

If know power locks...You need to remove your antena and use something to pry the door open a little then slip the antena in the sill and position the fat in just inside the lock button and pry back towards the trunk...Place some downward force as well.....Ive done this successfully in my cavy plenty of times;) if you have power the same except use the skinny end to push the unlock button....

Solution for "Need help programing keyless entry remotes for 96 cavalier

The following worked for me: get in the car and shut the door, then put the key in the ignition and turn it till all the dashboard lights come on, but don't turn it any further and start the car, then press the "Lock" button on the remote, if the doors then lock then it has reprogrammed.

Hope this works for you.

Keyless Entry and Remote

I have had this problem take you drivers door put your key and un-lock from the out side with key (NO) then open the door push un-lock from the inside button and then set from you remote and it should set if not push un-lock then lock and then do the un-lock with the key. Let me know if that works. what my car did was locked from the inside and I had the problem were it would not work till I un-locked from the out side plus I had to go to radio shack and change the battery from the control.
Hope good happens.
