Car Shut off While Driving

While driving the other day it sounded like my tire went flat and I was about to pull over and my car shut off completely and the brakes locked. When i finally got to a stop I tried to turn it on and nothing happened except the dashboard lights came on. I was told I was going to be needing a new alternator soon. Do you think it could have just went out while I was driving? Anybody know what could have happened?

Swap the ASD relay in the front driver's side of the engine compartment. It has a black cover on it that says "FUSES". Swap it out with a new fuse....

My two front tires locked up.

It sounds like you blew the pistons out of the calipers and locked up oyur front brakes completely. Best solution is to do a complete brake job. pads, rotors, calipers to sovle the problem.

I had a constant grinding coming from front passenger tire. Replaced Caliper and put the worn pads back on for a day, the constant grinding went away. It would still grind while braking, hitting a bump

It sounds like the brake pads are metal to metal, when you turn the flexing of the wheel makes them touch the rotor and grind. This can rarely be caused by a badly worn wheel bearing as well, have both brakes and wheel bearing inspected.

Tire locked up and brake fluid leaking

It's more than likely one of two things.Either the brake caliper pistons seized and didn't let the brakes release, or you have a wheel bearing seizing up. just check it out ! good-day !

Rear left tire will not turn

sounds like the brake is locking up. reach under car and pull down on emergency brake cable or just wiggle it to see if it works. if not remove tire and check back brake. it could be the springs are broken or the nails that hold on the brake shoes have errode to the point where they broke. just check it out!! have a good day !!

88 chevy 2wd rear right tire

You didn't say what the shop checked so I may be repeating something they already looked at. Check the brake caliper and I would also drain the old brake fluid and put in new fluid. You didn't mention if it was making any noise when this happens so I'll assume it's not a problem with your wheel bearings.

Rear brakes might be locked up???

Firstly it might be an idea to release the brakes so you can get the vehicle to a suitable place for repair. Something has gone wrong in the brake master cylinder or the pressure valve (if fitted) although I suspect the former. The hydraulic pressure can be released by loosening the nut on the brake pipe that goes to the rear brakes or undoing the bleed nipples on the rear cylinders a couple of turns. Try to bleed the brakes enough to get them working and then drive to a place of repair. Otherwise remove the master cylinder, strip down and repair or replace.
