The most common cause of this is the balancer rings starting to come apart, replace it and the problem will be fixed.

Well, as you know this could be almost anything. I suggest that you check the harmonic balancer. Most internal parts would not stop knocking.....

You need s new pulley. To remove it you have to use a special tool. This tool allows to pull off the pulley. Sounds like the pulley is broken.

typically harmonic balancers are balanced and indexed to the crankshart they are bolted to. the harmonic balancer should have been replaced when it first came apart. it sounds like the the reinstallation of the defective balancer caused the rotating assembly of the engine to be out of balance. given time this will always damage the main bearings of the engine and I think this is the loud knock you are now hearing. do not continue to use the car and take it to a competent mechanic to evaluate and give you an estimate for the repairs.

Loud Knocking noise coming from engine

Most likely the engine harmonic balancer on the front of the crankshaft is coming apart. This is a fairly common issue.

99 trooper 3.5 v6 , believe balancer pulley sheared the key.pulley is wobbling and motor knocking like rod this a zero tolerance engine and are they known for this problem.sounds like motor is out...

IT is a zero tolerance engine which means that if you break a timing belt there will be valve damage. Check the harmonic balancer and if there is a rubber insert between the pulley and the crank shaft hub then replace the harmonic balancer as this rubber has failed and the pulley will fall off. If the key has sheared as you suspect there would be no engine noise as the engine would not be running. Fix the balancer first then check for the noise as it may be just the balancer

Screechind and knocking sound when it is started

check the harmonic balancer for failure first The sound is probably the pulley slipping on the bonded rubber to the crank hub.

Harmonic balancer the ruber is seperating does this meen its bad will it make a noise like a knocking sound

Yes, it's definitely bad. But I'm not sure it would make a knocking sound. That sounds more like your crankshaft, but the harmonic balancer is designed to smooth out crank imbalances.

if the sound is a constant clanking and its awfully loud and people turn their heads when you drive by....and its coming from the front, its most likely the harmonic balancer
