Question about 1992 Subaru Loyale

1 Answer

Broken driveshaft A friend of mine is traveling across the country and apparently has broken her driveshaft with about 500 miles to go. No power in 2WD but the vehicle operates in 4WD, so it seems a pretty clear diagnosis unless its a problem in the transfer case. Here's my question: is it safe for her to keep going in 4WD so we can fix it on the cheap when she arrives?

Not unless it is all time 4X4. Driving for 500 Miles in 4 Wheel Drive will eventually Shell out the Transfer Case. These were never meant for Long Range Trips, Just short Distances when 4X4 is Nesseccary. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Friend of mine had a similar issue. Turned out to be frayed and broken wires in the rubber door jamb boot. You'll need to trace it down using a meter or test light.

Sounds like you have problems with the turbo as thee is a bearing there and you said it starts rattling once the turbo kicks in. There is one other thing, you may have internal engine damage as like you said, only 500 miles and some of that was racing. May not have been broken in properly. I know I was told you need to break an engine in for 500 - 1000 miles then change the oil. I hope this is not the case for you though.

Pull the valve cover and see if the timing chain is broken. Pretty common with engines that have higher miles or less than ideal oil change intervals. If the chain is broken it bent valves. Your better off with a low mileage used engine

Jaguar x type 2001 ABS light came on and then the engine Management light came on just after. Car stil drives OK, not sure how to fix the problem?

There is a strong chance that one of the stator rings on the rear driveshaft has broken away. They are located on the end of the rear driveshafts and after time they get corroded and will drop off. The ring is part of the hall effect sensor so when the wheel rotates there is no signal from wich ever side is broken thus throwing up an error.

Easiest way to check is to remove both wheels and look where the driveshaft slides into the hub from the rear and check the condition of the ring wich looks like a ladder. If its not there or sections are missing there is your problem.

There is a kit that you can buy wich changes the end of the shaft rather than the whole driveshaft.

The 3.5 v-6 burns 1quart or oil per 500 miles

You say 2pts of oil per 500 miles well ...
First can you see blue smoke out of the side mirrors if yes ,then you have either Worn or broken piston rings/Valve seals worn and leaking/Breather valve on engine faulty/Dirty air cleaner/or a oil seal or gasket leaking ,,,and if so that also is caused to broken rings
Let me know how you get on Ron

The following is a post from another site. I had the same problem and this worked for me.

Hello all,

I just wanted to share with everyone with the problem that I had withmy 2003 1500HD Crew Cab with 6.0 Liter. My truck would go into reducedengine power off and on. Sometimes one a week, sometimes 5 times on a20 mile trip. My problem was a broken wire on the plug in going in tothe throttle body. In the picture is the plug in that had caused me allof my pain and grief....... My problem was very intermittent and washard to diagnose. I started vehicle and with all codes clear. I wiggledthe wiring harness in the picture and vehicle spit and sputtered, throwing it into reduced engine power mode, and then smoothed out to asmooth idle. I disconnected the plug and pulled wires out of plug endand found a broken wire. Mine was a brown wire with white stripe. BUT,what was interesting, was that this vehicle had apparently had the smaeproblem with previous owner, becuz there was another wire (yellow wire)right beside the one that I found broken already soldered up and tapedfrom where it had apparently happened before. This was my problem andnot my truck is running great, and actually even idles better thatbefore. Hope this helps with any problems that anyone else is having. Iknow this problem can be very irritating.
