If it's too full the crankshaft will "beat" the oil and make it froth, the pump can't pump frothed oil so your engine wil be running on nothing. It will damge the bearings. Check the dipstick, if its too full, you need to drain some the same way you would change it.

To much oil builds up pressure and could blow gaskets, and also could get into the cylinder walls. If you haven't driven it to hard you may be ok,drain the oil and refill to proper level, change oil filter and clean up excess oil.

Why would 2000 Dodge Stratus have rough idle, die, and now won't start anymore?

The oil change was not done correctly, The filter was not tightened sufficiently so it leaked out and contacted hot engine parts, resulting in the smoke. The lack of oil in the engine may have damaged it.

Hi, My audi tt 2000 is leaking oil above the oil filter. It is at the top of the silver box like part that the oil filter screws into. It looks like a seal has broke or a gasket has broke. Any help...

The oil filter has a rubber gasket attached to the end that comes in contact with the filter housing on the engine. If the filter was screwed on with a dry gasket, or overtightened, the gasket could be damaged and leaking. It could be the filter is not tightened enough.

What would be a reasonable price for the following work and how would I know if these things were actually done? 2003 Audi A6 Transmission filter kit Water pump Timing belt Idler pulley Rear...

it is VERY unlikely that a seven year old car would need that much done to it, unless it had 200,000 or more miles on it. New oil should be the color of honey, not dark brown. That's the easy check.

I want to know how to service my 2000 Audi A3 myself. Oil change, oil filter change, plugs. What tools do I need?

You'll need some Metric wrenches and sockets and a rachet. Also, an oil filter wrench to fit your oil filter and a spark plug gapper. Don't forget to check the air filter and replace the fuel filter.

Procedures to change engine oil on 1997 Audi A4

the long answer is...put engine flush in oil, run for about 1 hour, switch off/remove key, then remove splash guard from under the engine (best done when car on ramps)then remove oil filler cap and drain plug on sump(oil pan).whilst draining into an empty can with the side cut out(drip tray) locate oil filter and punch a hole in the side of it with a screwdriver, and unscrew it.
Wipe oil onto the rubber seal of the new filter and screw onto carrier.hand tight only.
then replace sump plug washer(copper/fibre)and replace using a 6"long ring spanner and do up tight.
(max pressure of palm of hand)
put in about the same amount of oil that came out, replace oil filler cap and start engine.
check for any leaks, replace splash guard and lower car to level surface, turn off engine, leave for 60 secs, then dip for oil level and top up to midway on dipstick,
job done....
use 10/40 semi synthetic oil.
