96 suburban , firing problems

Disconnect the ignition coil module connector.
  1. Probe the ignition coil module connector terminal with a voltmeter to ground.
  2. With the voltmeter on the AC scale, crank the engine.
  3. Monitor the voltage reading.
Is the voltage reading within the specified value?
1-4 V if not replace ECM

2000 Pontiac sunfire 2.2 started hard then as I went down street i put the brake on and it stalled and would not start. The battery is ok. the fuel pump is working. What do u think the problem is?

try depressing the throttle all the way to the floor and hold it there while trying to start do not let up on the gas pedal until the motor statrs to rev up, if that doesn't work you must check for spark but to do this make sure you hook up a jumper wire (with aligator clip on either end)to the spark plug hooked tip after removing and then attach the plug wire to it, turn the motor over there should be a bright blueish purle spark present the reason for this is to protect the ECM from surge spike don't just lay the plug on a metal surface. I f a weak spark or white /yellow spark is present there is a weak ignition component (ignition module, coil, or ingnition pick up unit)

check the coil resistance ,also check coil wire, make sure that with key on that the posative side of the coil does have 12 volts. if power is there probably coil if no power at coil check ign fuse and possibly the ignition switch not feeding power out

My 89 isuzu trooper will start and run great as long as i keep the key all the way engaged 4 or 5 secs after i release it will die can you help

This is most likely a faulty ignition switch, when you release the key and it cuts the engine this is a lost live feed to the coil if petrol or stop soenoid if diesel
check ignion switch for a live feed to the coil/stop solenoid when cranking
