Question about 1990 Toyota 4Runner
My rear window wont go up or down
Remove rear window motor (see standard HAYNES manual cos its a bit fiddly to do especially if the window is stuck in up or half way up position).
Open the window motor check for corrosion and or broken circlip which can jam the worm gear.
Clean copper rotors and possibly change the carbon brushes if worn, check brush connections... regrease with silicon base grease (not the winding) and reassemble being careful to not over torque the motor winding housing screws because they can split the plastic worm gear crownwheel box... there you have just saved 265 Euros or if in the US about 300 dollars.
A recon unit can be purchased through the net fot 75 dollars.
Another solution .... if your winder motor is dead ... use the front left hand door motor (or right hand ... not sure which one now!) stick it in the tail gate mecanisme regulator and purchase a low cost recon to replace the front unit which you have robbed... its better to have the *** part in the back because the regulator and glass are heavier than up front.
Hope this helps.
Simon, Toulouse, France.
PS : stuff lots of grease all over the regulator mecanismes, they run smother with less effort, dont corrode and make less noise.

I am assuming you have power windows, more than likely your power window motor regulator needs to be replaced. But first your window could have came off its track, to check to see if this is the case (the easy way):
1. inspect the window make sure it doesn't appear to be visibly crooked or cockeyed
2. hit both the front and back of window with the palm of your hand forcefully, but not hard enough to hurt yourself of course :)
3. check to see if window will go up and down now
4. if this doesn't fix it then it's time to replace the power window motor regulator, unfortunately this isn't a job for the average joe (especially if he doesn't have the appropriate tools) so you'd need to take it to a shop
