92' Ford Thunderbird seized up(brakes & all)when gas got low

Hello, my 1992 Ford Thunderbird LX had seized up on me a couple of weeks ago when it was really low on gas(it had never done this before when low on gas). The entire car locked or seized up, I could not steer, brake or anything on the car & I ran into this poor lady who was waiting at a stop light!!! Then after that, the car started right up & we just added more gas again & now it is fine. The orange light had also lit up right before I made impact. Can someone please help? I am at a loss as the car drives fine now.....thank you for any help or suggestions. I know I will never run out of gas again & that was the first time that ever happened to me. I want to know why that would affect the brakes too. Thank you so much!

I am in no way an expert but I worked at several used car lots in my earlier years and your problem sounds to me like your engine actually died just before you had your collision with the lady.
I'm not sure if you are aware that if your engine dies on most vehicles you loose power to your BRAKES, STEERING, BATTERY, AIR CONDITIONER and possibly other areas. Not to mention circulation of COOLANT.
You loose power to these parts but brakes and steering are not LOCKED COMPLETELY UP.
They are just not power assisted by the engine anymore.
As to your underlying problem; It sounds to me you may have trash collected in your FUEL LINE.
Most all vehicles have filters in the fuel line.
Manual fuel pumps will more than likely be filtered just before entering into the carburation system of your vehicle.
Electric fuel pumps are usually under the car on the frame somewhere between the fuel tank and the engine.
Check with your local parts house for the location and replacement of the FUEL FILTER.
My recommendation?
Replace your fuel filter(s)
I recommend O'Riellys just because of LIFE EXPERIENCE.
GOOD LUCK!

How to prevent engine knock on 92 Ford Thunderbird Lx

The sensor helps to monitor the engine performace, and when it detects knock or pinging. It sends a signal to the PCM which in turn adjusts the timing and fuel ratio to reduce or eliminate it in those situations you have knocking. Low octane, bad gas, carbon deposits and heat will contribute to pinging. It's best to replace the sensor if you know it is faulty to avoid damage to the engine.

Remove the ABS Motor fuse,
as long as the HCU is open, you have
conventional brakes, until a wheel speed
sensor turns them on

Lot of work -- but you could replumb the brake tubing

My 92 5.0 thunderbird started to idle rough then after a couple days began to surge and when you accelerate car runs rough to about 2500rpm`s but seems to be getting worse

It sounds like you have a fuel problem. You should replace the fuel filter before trying anything else, and when you do, dump the old one into a CLEAN container and look for water. Dirt should be taken care of by the new filter. If you do have water, you will see beads in the container. Get some isopropyl alcohol or gas line antifreeze from your automotive dealer.

U are going to have to pull the gas tank out and replace the fuel pump inside the tank, this is common when you run the gas completely out, the pump is cooled by the gas it runs in, if u run it low allot it burns out the pump bearings very quickly.

Ford thunderbird wont start in Cold weather

change distributor cap first and see how it goes could have a crack in it.Failing which you need to test the ignition module when its cold as sometimes a component will break down and not work when its cold ,this is very much a hands on type job so if dist cap doesnt cure it call a mobile mechanic
