Question about 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Coolant light Few days ago my coolant light came on. Purchased the coolant (anti-freeze), and overfilled the coolant tank. Coolant seems to be seeping out when the car runs and starts smoking a little because some leaked on the engine. I had smelled the aroma of burnt rubber, like someone let the air out of a tire, then thought it was the hose burning up from the hot liquids. Did I ruin my engine by overfilling the coolant? Is there any other damage I could have done as a result of this mistake? Also, the coolant light still keeps coming on, this just happened today while we were out shopping (1 day after adding coolant/anitfreeze). Any real reason why this is happening? I'd hate the drive my car knowing I made a terrible mistake, ruin my engine, and have no car whatsoever. Please help!

If the anti freeze was low there is a leak .the sensor that controls the low coolant light is located on passenger side of radiator toward the top these sensors go bad sometimes.there is a clip that holds it in .place these car are also known for leaky intake gaskets.

My suggestion is take the car to Autozone, or a reputable garage, and tell them to run the codes (check the computer to see what the problem is).

No you didn't ruin anything,it should have been filled to the full line.
10 to 1 it's a coolant sending unit. Have a code scanner hooked up to it, that will tell what the problem is.

Why do I have oil in my 1997 honda civic coolant reservoir tank.

A few things could have happen,
1 you overheated and blew the head gasket and now the oil in mixing with the anti-freeze,
OR due to high Mileage the head gasket has just failed and is leaking into the anti-freeze journals inside the engine.,

Did you check the oil to make sure it's not a white'ish sludge on the inside of the cap, you might be mixing both back and forth..

Blowing white smoke

white smoke is caused by-- water or anti-freeze entering cylinder . if in radiator or the overflow tank. it will look like a chocolate milk shake. check on oil dipstick for traces of water or anti-freeze. also, a bad head gasket will let water or anti-freeze in combustion area. head gasket symtoms if bad. Symptom #1: Chronic Engine Overheating
Symptom #2: Significant Drop in Coolant Level Symptom #3: Mixing of Coolant and Engine Oil
Symptom #4: White Smoke from Exhaust Pipe

popping of overflow cap Symptom #6: Air Bubbles in Radiator
Symptom #7: Engine Lacks Power GOOD-DAY!

The sensor in the tank is probably bad. If you overfill the tank it will come out the overflow when your car warms up. You may also have a leak in a hose or radiator tank.

Car has not been driven for about a week, we had below freezing nights for a few nights. light, radio, electrical seem to work ok. motor makes an effort to turn over, shakes a little and makes a squeal...

drain and flush the cooling system and make sure that you use a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water when you fill it back up.

Common issue.... Most people are under the impression that if you use straight coolant in a vehicle, it will never overheat or freeze. WRONG...WRONG...WRONG,

Coolant needs water to activate or it will freeze just like water will.

Is it the LOW coolant light? Your car is equipped with a sensor on the expansion tank (radiator overflow). Right front fender. It's there for when the car heats up. As the engine heats up and the coolant expands it racks into the reservoir/overflow/expansion tank. When the engine cools, it sucks the coolant back in. If your car was low on coolant then there's a good possibility that as it cooled, it sucked the recently added fluid in. Check that it is full to the "cold full" level by looking at the tank before you start it for the day. If it's not, then the sensor is telling you to add coolant. If it is, then the sensor in the tank may be bad.

What is the hose for that comes out from the top of the radiator for and where does it go connected

This hose connects the engine to the radiator. Coolant flows thru the thermostat located where the hose attaches to the engine into the radiator to cool it.

Low coolant light keeps coming on and its not keeping anti freeze

this is a common complaint, GM/Buick recommends you remove the sensor from the radiator side tank and replace it.

I NEED TO FLUSH THE INTERCOOLER SYSTEM OUT AND REPLACE THE COOLANT, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS?

  1. Start with a stone cold engine

  2. Open the radiator cap

  3. Open the radiator drain plug and let out as much coolant as will drain';

  4. Replace drain plug and refill the sytem with distilled water

  5. Run the engine for for few minutes until it is warm (not hot);

  6. Repeat steps #3, #4 and #5 until you've effectively replace all of the coolant with distilled water. You'll know your finished draining the system when only clear water drains out.

  7. Drain the system one last time (now only residual distilled water should be in your cooling system);

  8. **** out all the coolant in the overflow tank (I use a Turkey baster or a huge syringe with a short length of rubber tubing.)

  9. Replace the radiator drain plug.

  10. Add undiluted anti-freeze to the system;

  11. Run the engine to mix the distilled water already in the cooling system with the newly added antifreeze.

  12. Check the antifreeze/water concentration with a tester.

  13. Over the next few days, adjust to the desired antifreeze/water mixture over the next several days. You'll likely have to **** out a little coolant mixture from the fill cap to create room for either the distilled water or the anit-freeze you'll be adding to adjust to the desired concentration. Sometimes I adjust by adding either water or antifreeze to the coolant- overflow tank which utimately mixes with the engine coolant;

  14. Don't forget to add collant and/or water to the coolant overflow tank.
