Exhaust Manifold Problem

I have a 92 Ford excort. And I am not getting any exhaust coming out. And I am not sure if someone put something in my muffler. Would it be safe to say I can hit it with a hammer, and get what ever is clogging it? Or is there a better idea to do?

As to hitting the muffler with a hammer, if it's that plugged, your not going to make things any better.

Does the engine run? If it does, exhaust has to be coming out from somewhere. If it doesn't , then your right in trying to find whats plugged, but if you pop a hole in the muffler and allows the engine to run, you risk asphixiation of you or the vehicles occupants driving the vehicle around.

How many catalytic converters does a 92 ford explorer has

In the early 90's Ford was puttung the catalytic convertors at the end of ththe exhaust manifold, between it and the exhaust pipe. Therefore you should have as many catalytic convertors as you have exhaust manifolds. A "V" engine would have 2. hope this helps.

Exhaust makes a loud tick when first started

usually an exhaust leak, at exhaust manifold to head, broken stud maybe. Use a piece of hose to your ear and listen at manifold.

I have a 1994 Ford F150 extended cab 5.0 v8. I need to change the exaust manifold gaskets, how can I do this and what tools and what will I need to do?

Hi! Here are some guides on removing and replacing the exhaust gasket:
- You may need a 12mm and 14mm closed and opened wrench
- Make sure that the engine and exhaust is cooled down before performing the procedure to prevent injuries.
- The exhaust manifold may have a cover, please remove it using the wrench
- Once opened, remove the nuts of the exhaust manifold
- Support the exhaust before pulling it out for it may hit the ground
- Place the new exhaust gasket in place
- PUt the exhaust manifold and tighten the nuts evenly
Hope this helps and good luck!

Exhaust removal required to drop transmission on 92 Ford Ranger?

Yes you do. trust me you don't want to get that thing half way out and down and not be able to continue. Soak those rusted exhaust studs in a good penetrating oil over night. I bet they come right out. I would not recomend cutting the pipe.
