acuator at transfer case or at frt diff if acuator is moving then axles to wheels should be turning and you may have a hub locking problem. if axles to wheels dont turn then the acuator tofront diff is no good not strong enough or bent shaft on acuator, some of these use a small shaft in front of actuator also make sure if this truck use this shaft check it for wear, lift truck remove actuator push inside arm in see if wheels spin turn frt shaft while holding arm in wheel should turn is they do, replace actuator, if they dont turn then diff problem,
Jack it up all way away around and so all 4 wheels are off the ground and put in N ,now can you turn the back tail shaft and the wheels go round
Now put in 4WDrive can you turn the tailshaft on the front and if so do the front wheels turn,, if not then
Take out the front filler plug and see if the crownwheel turns when you turn the front D/Shaft.
If no then the teeth on the pinion have stripped
UNless you have a elect diff lock on front hubs.
If the F/ Crown wheel dont turn then drain the oil and check to see if you have metal in there. RON
you should first check your hub assembly or wheel bearings if is a sunfire because i dont remember had worked on asunfire with 4 wheel drive or rear wheel drive they are front wheel drive and the axle shafts are in the front
sounds like either a fuse or the do u have locking hubs that need to be engaged also when using 4 wheel drive there is actually only 2 wheels turning usually passenger front and driver back sometimes u also have to drive backwards to engage and also disengage 4 wheel drive finally it may be a transfer case problem check drive shafts and u joints make sure they are engaged
I had this same problem a few years ago. In my case I didn't use the 4 Wheel Drive very often and the tranfer would hang in 2 Wheel. I fixed mine by tapping on the transfer case with a hammer while my wife switched back and forth from 2 Wheel to 4 Wheel.
vacumn pod on the front axel is stuck on. Jack up the front wheels spin both tires at the same time and see if the front drive shaft turns. If it does the 4x4 on the axel is engaged. The front drive shaft on these should not turn when vacumn pod is disengaged. YJ's have a split axel on the right side inner axel shaft.
