I'm going to guess it's a blocked oil return in the head under the valve cover. If it fills up the rocker cover, the valve seals can't handle that much oil and it gets into the combustion system. Try looking through an opening, oil cap, PCV valve opening to see if a lot of oil is pooling up.

Otherwise, it could be the PCV valve if causing pressure in the rocker cover. Or valve stem seals if it's worse on acceleration after coasting down. Good luck

White smoke on idle still

WHITE smoke? Or BLUE smoke? White smoke is usually caused by burning antifreeze (possible blown head gasket). Engine oil burning causes a bluish colored smoke.

Changing the oil two months ago means absolutely nothing to me. I have customers that travel 6000 miles or more in a month. Oil consumption is measured in volume over miles, not volume over months. It is normal for most 4 cylinder engines to use a little less than 1/2 quart in 1000 miles (even more than that for 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder engines).

200000 miles on a engine is gamble.if you had 5.9 diesel engine.you have more miles left on it.if you buy 200000 miles vechicle look for sign blue smoke or heavy white smoke.make sure you have good power going up hill good,throttle response have no flat spots,make sure engine not missing,and knocking.if all is good buy, just dont pay a too much money have too too many miles on it.buy as is no warranty.

General rules of thumb: Low speed engine on acceleration with smoke in the exhaust plume = worn piston rings High speed engine accelerating (spooled up turbo) with smoke = oil form turbo bearing and/or piston rings Engine on over run (coasting down, foot off the gas) with smoke = oil from valve guides. VW/Audi make good engines with tight tolerances so none of the above should apply at 62K miles; just make sure that the oil (the right oil) and oil filter are changed regularly.

Blue Smoke: Blue smoke is caused by engine oil entering the cylinder area and being burned along with the fuel air mixture. As with the white smoke, just a small drop of oil leaking into the cylinder can produce blue smoke out the tailpipe. Blue smoke is more likely in older or higher mileage vehicles than newer cars with fewer miles.

How did the engine oil get inside the cylinder in the first place? The car has many seals, gaskets, and O-rings that are designed to keep the engine oil from entering the cylinder, and one of them has failed. If too much oil leaks into the cylinder and fouls the spark plug, it will cause a misfire (engine miss) in that cylinder, and the spark plug will have to be replaced or cleaned of the oil. Using thicker weight engine oil or an oil additive designed to reduce oil leaks might help reduce the amount of oil leaking into the cylinder.

I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent and white smoke at startup and now severe white smoke on occasion when driving. 16k miles, I drive about 600 miles a month.


White smoke or semi white can be produced in several ways. One way is oil this is normally a whitish blue to blue smoke and has the apparent smell of oil being burned. Next could be antifreeze when it is being burned it has a sweet type of smell and tends to dissipate in the air rather quickly and usually is because of a bad head gasket. Next is automatic transmission fluid which is normally found on automatic transmissions and its normally drawn into an engine thru a vacuum line via a defective transmission modulator valve or some other defective part. Transmission fluid is very apparent and billows out so bad that you can't see anything behind you. Last but not least another type of smoke that is not white but black is the presents of to much gas/fuel being burned in the engine. If one of these fluids is low and/or you notice one of the symptoms that I pointed out above, then you know where to start looking for a fix.

I would also check your oil for discoloration. If it is a brownish color it could mean your oil and antifreeze are mixing and has the potential to damage your bearings.

Floods out 5 times out of 10 when trying to start car. Have to wait an hr. before trying to start again..Also a lose of power when going up a hill. Blue smoke comes out the exhaust. Also It won't change...

I have a 96 eclipse 2.0 with 150 thousand miles there is blue smoke coming out of the tail pipe smells like chemicals.

I that doesn't work then i would get with a mechanic and have it leak tested for possible piston ring replacement.

White smoke from the exhaust when I start the car


Hi!

What type of smoke can you see---

white smoke-
If you see a wispy, lingering white smoke that has a bittersweet smell, this is an indication that your car's engine coolant is leaking into the combustion chambers. This may be due to a leaky head gasket, or in a worst case scenario, a cracked cylinder head.

Make sure to take your car to the shop right away to get it fixed.
Thick white smoke---
If your vehicle is belching white smoke upon start-up, it is a sign that transmission fluid is entering the combustion chambers, possibly though a vacuum tube that connects the engine to the transmission.
This type of smoke can be confused with the normal puff of steam during start-up. If you are not sure, have your car inspected at the shop.

Blue/White Smoke--
A blue/white smoke is an indication that oil is being sucked into the combustion chambers through the valve guides. A quick fix for this problem is by replacing the valve seals. Valve seals are small, umbrella shaped pieces of rubber.

Most likely it is oil smoke, if the smoke is black, and the check engine warning light is on, it could be over fueling for numerous reasons.How many miles on the engine?
