Question about 2003 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

2003 Expedition w/ 5.4L engineno power to the engine

The key is turned, all lights and relevant items turn on except the engine. There's a slight click inside the passenger compartment, but nothing outside. Tried battery testing and other obvious tests but nothing. Does have remote start feature which yields the same results. Nothing!

Any suggestions?

Before you start throwing parts at it try taking the bolts out of the starter and inspect the threads. If they are turning black then clean them good with a wire brush. It could be causing you to loose your ground at the starter.

Tail lights and dash lights to 1999 Mazda Protege will not turn on

Sounds like a blown fuse to me. Check your fuse boxes, usually located in the engine compartment, as well as near the driver side of your dashboard, usually near your hood release, or possibly on the passenger side of the dashboard or in the glovebox. Remove the cover for each fuse box and read the diagram on the inside of the cover to find where the fuses are located for each item.

Turn key just a clicking noise. Lights come on. Check engine light on

A weak battery will make the lights come on & energize the solenoid for the starter, but the battery is too weak to make the starter motor turn. Checking the battery would be first, the solenoid second.

Check if you have power at the starter from the ignition key
Try give direct power to the starter, if still not starts, you have a bad starter

When you say nothing, does that mean no power or you turn the key and there is no crank ?

If you turn the key to the run position ( do not start engine ) press and hold the brake and shift into neutral, and try to start, what happens ?

The other item to bench test is the start motor relay, which is in the cab fuse panel.

check to make sure yu have 12v at the battery, once you do turn the ignition to start, if nothing, check the fuse and relays that control ignition, if all is good then the click sound is coming from the starter, have the solenoid replace.

2001 Chevy Impala won't start

If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.

Sounds like the starter is going out. Autozone will check those for free. It's just 2 bolts mounting the thing. It's under the passenger side rear of the engine. Undo battery, those 2 bolts and keep track of which wires go where. Run down to Autozone for a check or a new starter.
