Their should ba a tensioner pully that it goes around. this part keeps tension on at all times. It is possible that you have the wrong belt or you have the belt routed wrong. Check with your local auto parts store, they should be able to give you the belt routing and the right belt if you have the wrong one.

Please contact me if your problem presists.

I have a screeching noise when I start my 2001 kia optima. My belt that I see is tight and I see no leaks of oil getting on it. I have checked the power steering fluid.

Hi Julie,

If your belt only "screeches" when you first start your engine, the problem is most likely to be related to either your alternator or your air conditioner. Sometimes the bearings in these things start getting worn and cause excess resistance to rotation and will cause a screaching noise that goes away once they are moving. This usually also causes "glazing" on the belt.

Look at the ribbed side of the belt. If it looks "shiny" rather than just a dull black, this is glazing. It may not be necessary at this time to replace anything like the alternator or the air conditioning compressor, but I would recommend replacing a glazed belt and do a THOROUGH check of your pully assemblies while you have the belt off.
Spin all of the pullies (including the tensioner and idler pullies) by hand with the belt off. You should not be able to "hear" them spinning. Any pully or component that feels rough or has a rough or rattling sound when you spin it by hand should probably be replaced.

When replacing the alternator belt on a 1999 mazda protege how many pullys does it go around. cause i dont know if this belt is to long

There are 2 belts. One goes around the Crankshaft. the Power Steering Pump and the Air Conditioner Compressor (if equipped) and the other belt goes around the Crankshaft, The Alternator and the Water Pump. You can have your local parts supplier verify that you have the correct belt for the vehicle by calling them and giving them the number on the belt. Also make sure that you are installing the belt in the correct position. i.e. putting the alternator belt on the alternator and not on the power steering, etc.

How do you release the tension, when trying to replace the alternator belt

The belt will run around a tensioner pully some where near the top or side of the pully system and you will notic the frount of it has a square hole in the center of it ,that is the size of your 3/8 rachet or might be the size of a 1/2 inch rachet the square where you attach the socet to,well that fis in that little square hole on pully once in there you can turn the pully enough to loos the belt,,like a spring action

Diagram of pullies and belts on 86 toyota mr2

If you are talking the a/c pulley and alternator pulley, I am pretty sure the belts are different sizes (different number of ribs in the belt). So, you can just look carefully at the ribs and put the right belt on the right pully. from memory, the A/C belt goes on first and all the pullies towards the front of the car are used for that belt. The Alternator belt goes on next, and all the pullies from the crank shaft toward the back of the car (from the crank pulley) go to that. I could have those reversed, but the ribs on the belt will show you for sure. have fun!

Serpintine belt routing 95 dodge spirit

moz-screenshot.jpgYou can find one at autozone.com, you may have to sign up for a free account, but you can view the job diagram there. It looks like for a 6 cylinder, there are two belts, one goes from the crank pully around the water pump then the alternator, and the other goes around the crank shaft then the power steering pump and then the air compressor pully. The power steering and air is a "v" belt and the other is a ribbed serpentine belt. they both just wrap around no wierd routing. the only thing I do not see is the idler pully or tensioner pullys.

Belt inst

For the 3.0L Vulcan, you have a tensioner that is located just below the power steering pully. Use a 15mm wrench or the 15mm shallow well socket that comes in a Serpentine Belt tool to push the tensioner toward the rear of the engine compartment. Take the old belt off and route the new belt. The belt begins at the crankshaft pully, goes under and around the a/c compressor, up around the power steering pump, around (with the flat edge) the idler pully, around the alternator, the flat edge then sits against the tensioner and back around to the water pump pully. You should have a belt routing diagram on the underside of the hood just above the serpentine pully assembly.

from front of engine looking back, belt around bottom of crank pully, water pump is just above, left side of belt comes around water pump going counter clock wise, put belt over alternator, then straight across to a/c compressor,(make sure belt goes under any idler pullies, smooth side of belt to smooth side of pully)find your belt tensioner, pry back on tensioner(be carefull)and carefully place belt under roller pully of the tensioner, release and check allignment of belt prior to starting.oh ya make sure belt is in good condition.

Surpentine belt.

depends on which v8 you have....the 4.7 the routing is as follows it goes under the waterpump pully over the alternator down and around the power steering pumpto the crank...it goes under the bottom of the crank to the idler pully.the flat side of the belt goes ver the idler then around the automatic tensioner to the ac compressor.
on the 5.2 and 5.9 it routes starting at the idler pully the flat side goes undr the idler the up to the ac compressor around the compressor and down to the power steering pump ... around power stering pump to waterpump where the flat side is against waterpump pully around water pump down and around crank up it automatic tensioner....around tensioner and up and over alternator
