Question about 1983 Ford F150

1976 Ford F150 Bogs down when accelerater is pressed.

My 1976 Ford F-150 starts and idles perfectly but when I press down on the accelerator, it bogs down and dies. I was told that it could be a clog in the exhaust. Any advice on what it could be would be much appreciated.

If it has a converter on it.....it may be stopped up, but before you replace it have the fuel pump checked, as it may not be getting enough gas at higher rpms. It will start and idle fine, but starve out when you press the pedal. Have you changed the fuel filter? That will cause the same problem.....

Start with a timing check, at higher miles the timing chain plastic guides wear and cause multiple misfire and driveability concerns...of course check the obvious, spark plugs, plug wires,c.o.p,fuel pressure..all basics. .ck engine light on?

Motor bogs down

You could possibly turn up the idle if it bogs down when idling. If it only bogs down when you press the gas it may be a clogged fuel filter or fuel line. Could also be your fuel pump starting to go if you ride with less than a quarter of a tank of gas most of the time.

Would an idle control valve cause a car not to accelerate?

no, idle air control valve is literally to control your idle speed.
what happen when you press on gas? car shakes, RPM goes up, or engine just bogs down?

Truck will idle about 15 seconds and dies or bogs down

You need to take a pressure and volume measurement, most fuel pressures for a carburetor engine are 3 to 7 psi, then you need to make sure the volume is consistent for a period of time, 20 to 30 second of engine cranking while the fuel is transferred to a container of some sort, make sure the ignition system is disabled to prevent you from blowing up the property.
