Under the steering colume the should be a small hole or a small cover that you can take out to reveal a small hole that you can reach up into and push on a silver cylinder type thing pulling it back towards you and that should release the key.

I have 98 grand prix ignition is stuck in start had to pull fuel pump fuse but cant shut car off lights are still on

Suggest disconecting the battery. Then you can work on the problem. it is not clear if the issue is the key stuck in the start position in the iginition switch or if the starter motor is stuck (running) after the car starts. If it the starter motor is running... Time for a new starter. If it is the ignition switch, try
pushing the key in and turning back off. Still stuck? Try pulling pn the key and turning off. Either way, if it is the key, yime for a new ignition switch.

Cant get the key to start truck or go into acc postion to remove

Sounds like a couple waffers have broken inside and 1 of them is stuck preventing the cylinder from turning. The waffer is above the shear line.

You will need to remove the bottom cover of the instrument dash to access the ignition cylinder. On the bottom of the cylinder there will be a hole. When the cylinder is in the ACC position, it will provide an opening in that hole so you can depress the lock pin. When the pin is depressed you simply pull out the ignition cylinder as a whole. Since you cannot get to ACC you will need to drill into the little hole until you reach the pin. Then you will have to drill the pin too. After that it will slide right out.

A new ignition cylinder with new keys can be picked up for about $30 on ebay. You could take the new one to a locksmith and have them rekey it to your old keys for about $30.

Most drains are caused by door switches or hood switches not turning off lights. It could really be anything. You can either get a meter, pull off your Negative battery cable and put one meter lead on your now off.negative battery cable and negative battery terminal. Set your meter to read dc amps. Start pulling fuses one by one until the meter reads less then .5 amps or 500 mA. If you dont have a meter you can try pulling one every night until you battery no longer drains and narrow it down from there. Anything with power could really be causing this. Alternator and starters are also known for draining batterys while not running.

1999 jeep grand cherokee will not start.turns over but acting as if there is no fuel.

The Question is no Fuel Or no Spark. When you turn the key to the ACC postion the last click before the engine turns over can you here a buzz or a little wine come from behind you? If so you have fuel, no spark Unless fuel filter is clugged (when was that replaced last) Start there, then get back

Car will not start

Double check the positive connection at the battery. Check both but pay attention to the positive. These batteries have a problem with the terminal working loose from the inside and causing exactly this issue. This uses a 8mm or 5/16" wrench(which ever you can find first, or pliers if no wrenches). Make sure both are tight. If both are tight, remove the battery and most autoparts stores will test them free of charge and replace as necessary. Let me know if you need anything else.

Key lock cylinder won't come out....

cars have a lock position to protect the car from being stolen by theives. When we park the car with the wheels turned to the sides it gets locked in that position and the key can sometimes nbe hard to take out. Try moving the steering wheel in both directions as much as possible while pushing in the key and trying to jiggle it to turn. If you can get it out, the next time , park your car with the wheels facing forward. I hope this works.

Key gets stuck in ignition

My wife's 98 Pontiac Grand Prix has the same problem. There is a manual key release under the steering column. You need to stick something thin like a pen up into the hole to release it. There are two possible problems one is the contacts on the shifter that checks to see if your in park and the other is the ignition cylinder is worn out.

If it is the contacts on your shifter, I would take your center console apart and clean the contacts on the park switch.

If it is the ignition cylinder you could try replacing it, but you need to re-key the new ignition cylinder. Therefore I recommend going to the dealer for this one.
