Jack the vehicle up and put on jack stands, then take the drivers side wheel off, you should be able to see the transmission mount from inside the wheel well.
Now you must use a floor jack to jack up the Transmission just enough to support the weight.
Now remove the bolts which hold the transmission mount to the transmission, and the ones holding it to the car frame, now you should be able to use a pry bar to remove the mount.
If it is very tight, try lifting the transmission, or lowering it slightly to make it looser.
Now install the new mount, and put your bolts back in and tighten.
Put the wheel back on,let it down off the jack stands and have fun driving.

How do i know which motor mount needs replacement

With car in drive/reverse and foot hard on brake if the engine moves when gas pedal is depressed and quickly released in both D&R, then that mount/mounts is defective...

Engine mount should be replaced if:

1) The hard rubber surface is covered with heat check cracks.

2) The rubber is separated from the metal plate of the engine mount.

3) The rubber is split through the center of the engine mount

The transmission case will crack or break if either engine mounts or transmission rear mount is broken...Here is a GM Service bulletin addressing the issue:

The transmission mount (see drawing) test:

>Raise and support the vehicle

>Raise the transmission/transaxle in order to remove the weight from the transmission/transaxle mount and create slight tension in the rubber.

Replace trans. mount if anyone of the three conditions listed above exist

How would I know if the motor mounds are bad on a 98 cadillac deville

Simple test should show broken mounts. Place the tranny in drive and with the brakes full on rev the engine and watch for excessive engine movement sideways. Check rear engine mount (rear axle drive) try to lift the rear of the tranny and see the movement in the rear engine mount. For side mounted engines the mount bolts should be in the center of the rubbers . If they are to the bottom of the rubbers , the mounts need replacing.

I have engine vibration in 2004 Trailblazer. Vibrates when at a stop. Some vibration when in nutrel, but really bad when put into drive. Had motor mounts replaced. Replaced the plugs and coil packs. ...

Good call on the engine mounts, this problem has had a lot of TB owners scratching their head. Hope you used genuine GM mounts, aftermarket mounts tend to crush too much sending you back with the same problem you started with. With aftermarket mounts, the engine will not be as high as needed, the rubber isn't as stiff. Seen this many times. The other thing to check is you tranny mounts. Engine and tranny mounts are usually the culprit with vibration while in gear and stopped with TB's. What type of plugs did you install? Have you cleaned your throttle body?

Im buying this truck for $500. the only thing i hear wrong with it is the motor shakes bad almost like the bolts mounting to the tranny r bad. can those bolts be replaced and the motor and tranny stay...

i would check the motor mounts to make sure the bolts are tight, then i would check the rear transmission mount bolts, also to make sure they are tight. yes , if the bolts mounted to the tranny need to be replaced, you can normally get them from a auto part store.

My 1985 transmission (manual ) pops out of gear when power is applied

If it is popping out of gear then your synchro-gears are shot and the transmission needs to be rebuilt. I know that sucks to hear but there aren't many things that would cause your tranny to pop out of gear. The only other thing it might be is a broken motor mount and a broken tranny mount. But that's not likely to happen and I think you know if you broke a motor mount and your engine was rising and falling as you accelerate and decelerate.

Check your mounts then start calling your local wrecking yards!

Good luck, I hope this helps you.

Sorry it sounds so bad, but trannys are cheap and fairly easy to replace in your driveway.

How do you change the clutch assembly for a 1998 plymouth breeze

Pull the cv axles, starter disconnect all likages to the tranny, remove all bellhousing bolts, Then support the tranny, remove all tranny mounts, lower and separate. Be ready to take BATH as the Thick Gooey tranny fluid WILL come out where the axles go. You could drain the tranny first step. Supprt the engine from above so not to tear up motor mounts. Then you can start to do the Clutch. If you have never done this before. Count on a weekend. And don't take 2 weeks to do it. Have the Flywheel resurfaced before putting back together. Do it once and do it right. Replace the rear main seal and Transmission seals while you have it apart. Trust me on this.

2003 Jetta 2.0 97,000

that would be a likely yes if engine moves while in reving up it means the motor mounts are wareing out you should get these replaced as soon as possible its quite a simple proceedure also since your replaceing motor mounts have them replace tranny mounts even if those arent bad its a good idea to have stability around the vehicles engine without it you this is what could happen
example tranny mounts break now your whole car had been jard loose and theres more to fix and more of the same motor mounts to replace now paying double for the same work
